Q: Temp fix for iOS 6 not pushing Exchange mail

All,

If you are reading this, you are probable having the same problem as I am:

After you switched to the iPhone 5, Exchange mail is no longer PUSHing to your device.  I have done testing and this problem affects:

1) iPhone 5's running connecting to Exchange 2007 or Exchange 2010 servers.

This does not effect:

1) my iPhone 4S running iOS 6 Beta 6.0 10A5376e

Troubleshooting:

1) Wiped phone and started with completely fresh iOS 6 on my iPhone 5. The only thing I did was add my exchange account.

-Still had same issue.

** How to fix this issue:

1. Go to Mail, Contacts, and Calendar.  Click "Fetch New Data".  Make sure push is on.

2.  Go back to Mail, Contact, and Calendar.  Click on your exchange account. Click on "Days to Sync".  Even if it is set to what you want this on, chance it to a different setting (i.e. 1 week).  You can change this back later, but this is the only way to fix it.

3. Go back to Mail COntact and Calendar.  Click on "Show".  No matter what this setting is on, change it to a different setting. (i.e. 100 recent messages).

4.  Reboot your iPhone 5

5.  Exchange PUSH will be working now.

Thanks,

Clay

    jimwoodard,

Do any of those iPhone 5s that are not having this problem have LTE coverage or are they in 3G (Says 4G on AT&T phones) coverage?   On my iPhone 5 (Verizon), when I am outside of LTE coverage in my area and on 3G, I have seen my push just start working and contiue to work.   Once I am back in LTE coverage, that's when I see push for exchange fail.

On a side note....  one positive thing that 6.0.1 update has fixed (for me) is when push notification failed, iMessage would fail.  But now iMessage works no matter what now.

Are these Verizon users without problems using EAS with Microsoft Exchange 2007 or 2010?  Not calling this a win here for me or the many others.  I'm on my 3rd replacement phone on Verizon since day one, and EAS push mail fails on every one of them as soon as I go mobile on the LTE network.  Same now for three other colleages on Verizon, yet now we have three on AT&T with no issues whatsoever.  We drive 2 miles and switch towers on our Verizon phones and our push is gone.  I'd love to delve into the stats and settings of these other Verizon users who have no problems and see what's going on, as maybe we can learn something to help in the interim.  But after my 3rd replacement phone and no EAS push on any, I'm convinced there is a problem with LTE. There are clearly a complex set of circumstances at play here.

At this time, push seems to keep working when I'm on a WiFi network segment that includes the Exchange server. It breaks shortly after I switch to LTE or 3G coverage (Verizon). In my case it breaks even if I disable 4G. I do not have any APSD specific items in the diagnostics logs.

To whatever Apple people are monitoring this thread- this is a major issue that is causing my IT consulting firm to tell clients to avoid the iPhone 5 at this time. Radio silence on an Enterprise issue of this magnitude is not, in our opinion, the best way to play this for your customers.

I've had 4G, 3G, and LTE on each phone, and no one has had this problem. This is strange indeed, and this will do nothing but hurt Apple at a time when they can ill afford this kind of negative publicity.

    Hi

I tried your method of double restore, and its seems to be working fine for last 48 hours. This is the first time my push has worked longer than 4 hours. Of note, my push was erratic, would occasionally work on both LTE and wifi, and issue was with EXchange only, not icloud, icloud works fine. Keeping my fingers crossed.

    IS your still working?

I don't normally allow diagnostic and usage data to be sent, but perhaps those with this problem should enable that data to be reported to Apple (if they haven't already).  If they get enough crash logs, perhaps that will speed a resolution.

I have tried the double restore with no such success.  Similar results as resetting the network settings--- it last for a brief period and then no longer pushes.  Also, the last few days been getting very sporadic push alerts chimes or sounds, but no message alerts that pop up to read.  Also, last two days, very slow load time when i open  my email, and today have been having to actually "pull down" to get new messages to load, as opposed to them just loading automatically when i open my email.   Still frustrated as can possibly be.

Well I have the same issues and have grown frustrated. Prior to this I have had Droid phones which had 0 problems with the email functions. Figured I was do for an upgrade so wanted to try the I5. The email function seems to be such an important thing to have with a phone now a days. Due to this email issue I am starting to have second thoughts about moving away from the Droid OS phones. I do hope Apple gets a fix for this ASAP.

I got an unexpected call from Apple today. They seem to be aware of the issue and both watching this thread and gathering data. Hopefully a fix is in the offing soon. Just thought folks would, like me, be relieved to know it's on their radar. Thank you, Apple.

So I'm sitting in a client office's in another town yesterday and for about 10 minutes, I get push email from my company's exchange server.  This after many days of successful push ended (about 96 hours prior to release of 6.0.1 after the double restore as new first, then from back-up) and then worked again for a few hours after install of 6.0.1 on 11/1.

Never had this kind of experience with an Apple product.  Kind of discouraging for the future.

Forgive me for not reading all 37 pages. I read the first few and the last few, and didn't see my question answered.

I just got my iPhone 5 yesterday, and push is not working on my exchange account, either. My question is this, though... If it has push enabled, does it still fetch on the fetch time selected (in my case, 15 minutes)? I don't think it does, but I wanted to make sure. I need to get my emails without opening the mail app. Do I leave push on, and hope fetch backs it up, or just disable push? Thanks, all.
