Music will not sync on iphone5

I can sync music to my iPad 3, but using same iTunes, laptop, settings etc, music will not sync to my new iPhone 5!

iTunes recognises my device, goes through the steps 1-5. At step 5 it just says waiting for changes (not 'copying 1 of 200' songs etc as it does with iPad)

I am off on holiday in the morning and so want my music!

This happened to me today. I hadn't synced my iphone5 in a while, because the sync over wifi hasn't been working. When I did I lost the ability to sync music and podcasts. I dislike the podcast app, so I keep everything in iTunes still. I didn't want to move my library, I'm sure it would have been fine, but I didn't want to deal with it going through all 40000+ tracks looking for gapless play back and what not again. Sorry, off track. To get mine to sync again I went through made sure iCloud match was off (it was), and went to on this phone and manually deleted all tracks in each group music, podcasts, tones, etc. Tried to manually add a podcat after that and it worked like normal. It wasn't until all the sections were empty that is allowed me to add music. Now back to this wifi issue...

I have the same problem over and over, never having used cloud to sync. The easiest fix that works for me without wiping everything out is to uncheck the playlists that I want to update, sync the phone so they're gone, and re-check them to sync again. It's a major hassle but has worked consistently and I don't need to wait for all of my music to re-sync. Resetting my phone and re-starting my computer doesn't help at all.

The same thing happened to me when I updated to ios6.0.1 for my iPhone 5. The only songs that I could put on my iPhone were those that I purchased since getting the new iPhone in December. I could not sync any songs that were older than that. I tried a number of the things suggested above but finally found this solution:

  1. On the iPhone under "Settings" select "Music"
  2. Uncheck iTunes Match as suggested above
  3. Make sure you have the right Apple ID and password under "Home Sharing".
  4. Hook up the iPhone to the computer and launch iTunes.
  5. Under the DEVICES menu on the left, select your iPhone
  6. Click on the "Summary" Tab
  7. Under "Options" unselect"Sync only checked songs and videos"
  8. The colored bars at the bottom suddenly grow showing that you can bring the music back to the iPhone
  9. Sync the iPhone and the music reappears.

After so much trouble trying to get this to work, the "unselect" in Step 7 seems overly simple, but it worked in my case. It is counter-intuitive since unselecting "Sync only checked songs and videos" actually allows the opposite - I can now select the songs and videos to sync. Maybe someone can explain that.

zzjuls worked but I didn't have to go through the moving the itunes folder. Just took off music syncing, synced, uplugged, and made sure all sharing was off and replugged back in and asked for music to sync again.

This problem definitely happened after I thought "why not try wifi syncing." It sucked and stopped my music from syncing. I had gone back to cable syncing but music still was not syncing even though everything was checked right.

Thanks for the solution!!

I know it's been said on here... but to hopefully add to the "solution" pile...

Following recommendations on here, I simply unchecked iTunes Match in iPhone... then unchecked "Sync Music" in iTunes, sync'd, (it deletes all music from phone)... rechecked "Sync Music" sync'd again... waited till all music went back, all good.

I'm not sure what part of all that was absolutely necessary... likely the "unsync/resync music part... at any rate, it's working now.

Good luck all.
