Music will not sync on iphone5

I can sync music to my iPad 3, but using same iTunes, laptop, settings etc, music will not sync to my new iPhone 5!

iTunes recognises my device, goes through the steps 1-5. At step 5 it just says waiting for changes (not 'copying 1 of 200' songs etc as it does with iPad)

I am off on holiday in the morning and so want my music!

I found this response to the problem in the MacRumors forum:

"Syncing of music via iCloud (iTunes Match) precludes syncing of music via iTunes. This is not a bug, you simply must decide whether to use iTunes OR iTunes Match but not both, to sync music on your phone. To stop syncing music via iCloud and use iTunes to configure what is synced, on your phone go to Settings / Music / iTunes Match and turn that OFF. Then go back to iTunes on your computer, then Devices / [Phone name], select Music from the top menu, configure your sync settings, and click Sync.

"Alternatively, if you wish to use iCloud/iTunes Match to sync but only via Wi-Fi, then on your phone go to Settings / Music / iTunes Match, make sure it's on, and change its subsetting "Use Cellular Data" to OFF. However, this may prevent you from listening to your music via phone when you are away from a Wi-Fi network."

I unchecked the iTunes Match on the iPhone and the music synced fine.

I tried everything, including Jodie Futornick's advice above but no change. I completely wiped my iPhone 5 and started again - set up as new device. Phone synced and music was there, but songs all greyed out therefore would not play. I synced again and it went through the copying 1 of 600. Finally the songs were no longed greyed out and I had music to my ears!! :)

In Norway we do not have itunes match but I have the same problem. But after the first sync now the sync is allways aborted because the Macbook does not recognize my iphone anymore. In between the Macbook is recognizing the iPhone, when I am than tried to sync the music both by dragging music over to my iphone and by generall sync without ****. I am using both WIFI and direct connection with cable. Allmost the same problem with my ipad 2.

I don't have iTunes Match. I have tried everything that has been suggested. For some reason, it syncs 213 songs only of my over 1800, Including the ones I DON'T want! I have selected entire music library, and it lists 1849 in grey, but then it copies only 213. I have no idea what to do (and what is worse, is that it seems to be including the playlist that I absolutely do NOT want).

I spent a week trying to deal with this problem and all the "easier" fixes and even the harder ones (tried factory restore which errored out). Finally, this is what worked (now on ios6.01):

1) uncheck sync music

2) sync so that now your iphone 5 will have no music on it

3) disconnect

4) remove the itunes library following these instructions here on Apple (basically moving itunes.xml to desktop, then deleting the itunes.itl)

5) import the playlist (itunes.xml on desktop)

6) reconnect

7) select manual music sync

8) add back libraries and sync

whew!
