Oct 22, 2012 1:17 AM in response to Christopher Parrottby Maerlin,I have the same issue of downloads in the night between 80 and 500 MB. When mobile data is turned off or iCloud is disabled it seems to be fine but that is not how I want to use an iPhone.
It started with upgrade to iOS 6 and continues on the iPhone 5. I tried to restore the phone, the network settings, nothing helps. Would not like to get another OS instead of iOS but this must stop.

I just uninstalled my Podcast app, since there are some here that are saying it supposedly "cured" their data sapping. I turned DataMan on, then cellular data back on. In 1 minute - 137k down. This is absolutely insane. I had no app open at all.
AT&T finally admitted that they know about the problem and are waiting for an answer from Apple. I was credited for the overage of $50, as in just three weeks, 15GB data was used. I was told that I would not be charged for overages until the problem is solved, I will hold them to that. Specially since there has been nothing but denial and stupidity from both sides.

Affected by Mobile Data Usage bug in iOS6
Hi,
I seem to be one of those iPhone users affected by the mobile data usage bug in
iOS6 when connected to wifi.
My Virgin mobile data usage statistics shows that I have used 1080 MB of 3G data
between 10th Oct2012 and 23rd October 2012.
Certainly I have not used the mobile data to this extent. So as the bug reported
in the below links state, my phone must be using mobile data even when I am
connected to wifi.
There are articles about this bug on variuos tech websites and telecom network
forum (like Optus)
http://www.zdnet.com/who-will-pay-for-the-ios-bill-shock-problem-7000005222/
https://community.optus.com.au/t5/Apple/iOS6-and-CELLULAR-DATA/m-p/24496#U24496
Couple of days back (before reading these articles), I addressed my issue with a
virgin customer care associate who seem to be not aware of this bug either. So she
did not help me much.
Currently I have switched off my mobile data and its causing a great inconvenience
as I am not able to check my business mails while on the move.
Since I bought the iPhone from Virgin, I expect your consideration here.
I hope you can collect all the customer complaints and address it with apple for a
quicker bug fix and meanwhile give us the required data allowance to continue with
our day to day mobile data usage while on the move.
===========================
Meanwhile is there a way we can address this to apple customer care ? My iPhone 4S is under warranty but I dont think I have a valid technical assistance contract.

Oct 23, 2012 12:03 PM in response to ItsNotTheSameWithoutSteveby JBadger169,I do not know about the dataleak but I noticed this fact:
- I have locked my sim
- then power cycled my phone without entering in the unlock code for the sim.
- went to the Podcast app and tried to download an epasode manually. The download does not start.
- If I then enter in the pin for the sim the download starts even though I have selected "Use cellular data" -- NO and I am on WiFi.

Oct 24, 2012 12:56 PM in response to Christopher Parrottby mmain19,I am sure this isn't the same fix for everyone, but my excessive data use began when I turned on the 'Camera Upload' feature of Dropbox. I even have 'Use Cellular Data' tuned Off, and it still uses an excessive amount of data several days after my 121 photos were uploaded.

Oct 25, 2012 7:35 AM in response to Christopher Parrottby Frk77,Hi!!
I have exactly the same problem in Italy.
I'm using all my bundle of 1GB in two weeks, instead of one month.
I turn off my cellular data since when they'll fix the problem. Anyway I find it really ANNOYNG.

Oct 26, 2012 11:08 PM in response to Christopher Parrottby Woo,Not sure if there's a thread about the Verizon iPad 3. but I've started to experience 500MB./dl each day. It's on iOS 6.0 and even with 'cellular data OFF'. Waiting for Verizon, but Verizon won't respond via email, I must call and wait forever on their 'customer service' phone wait-lines. Hope they fix this since you figure some people are being over charged.

Oct 29, 2012 1:21 AM in response to Christopher Parrottby ironsword7,I was shocked to receive an email at 9:30am from my ISP to say I'm over my ADSL quota even though I still had 15 days to go until rollover. I only get 60GB/month (i'm in Australia). I checked my usage and 22GB was downloaded in 9.5hrs! I was listening to a podcast using the Podcast app for my iPhone 4S on iOS6 just after midnight (I'm a night owl ok?). Must of been downloading repeatedly or something because the 22GB is just ridiculous! When I go over my limit my Internet gets throttled to 128Kb/s (yes just over twice the speed of dial-up). Luckily my ISP offers data blocks so I had to spend $30 for 25GB to get my ADSL Internet back up to full speed.
I've deleted the podcast app but it's still downloading 500MB download in 25mins. arrgghh! Will have to restore and see if that fixes it.
Thanks a lot Apple

Oct 29, 2012 2:07 AM in response to Wooby Woo,Update.
Seems to be similar to the iPhone5 iOS6 problem, since after turning off 'cellular data, both LTE and 3G', Verizon says my iPad3 has used up 120MB. of data. Hopefully the same or a similar 'cellular settings update' will fix this if Verizon ever gets around to it.

Oct 29, 2012 3:07 AM in response to Christopher Parrottby ironsword7,Ok so I just restored my iPhone 4S iOS6. Clean install. No huge amounts of data is being downloaded anymore. I'm not going near that Podcast app again! Lift your game Apple!

For a good overview of the problem and some other tips that might help you might want to check out this article at TidBits: http://tidbits.com/article/13354

Oct 30, 2012 4:47 PM in response to Christopher Parrottby Misspod,I have just been informed by Telstra that my plan has in excess of $690 data usage. It has gone over the 2.5BG included in the plan. *** is happening? Luckily a very nice telstra worker has waived these charges because it is the first time happening but what is the cause? I don't want to be stuck with extra $700 plus bill next month!
I agree, it just is not the same without Steve Jobs RIP
