Buffer Underrun??

Hey. Can someone help me please!!!!!
When I go to burn my movie in idvd 4 using dvd-r it gives me this error
The recording device reported the illegal request: Buffer underrun. (0x21, 0x02.)

When playing the movie in imovie it plays fine. When playing back the dvd it is fine until the end where I imported clips of people talking. The picture freezes on one and then the audio keeps playing, but the picture doesnt move.

What is going on here?

Mac G5, Mac OS X (10.3.9), idvd 4

Are you using your superdrive or an external DVD burner?
Buffer underrun happens when the transfer of data to your burner isn't happening fast enough for the burn speed you've selected. This can mean you get gaps in audio CDs, but gaps in DVD video s would probably prevent playback. It could be your corrupted film is from a gap in the dvd data.
Are you using your computer for anything else whilst burning? This would slow down data transfer.
I had the same problem with an external burner and have to use the free "toast lite" it came with to run "buffer underrun protection"
Hope this helps

You also want to turn off your screensaver and don't let your hard drive go to sleep during the encoding and burning process. You'd think that the System would recognize that your Mac is doing one of its most difficult tasks (video work) and not snooze off, but if your hard drive drops off to sleep, the data stops, and you get buffer underrun.

I am using my superdrive. I already turned off the screensaver and such, so that's not it. I don't touch the computer while burning. I've tried the files to the desktop. Nothing is working. What I don't understand is that the very first time I burned the movie it worked except the audio was shifted in the begginning so I had to go back and fix it. Now I get the buffer underrun and I hadn't changed anything else.

Is my only option to cut the movie in peices? Does that mean I have to have 2 movies on the dvd? I don't really like that option.

as Andy said, a buffer underrun happens, when the computer doesn't offer data fast enough for the burner... this shouldn't happen, because BEFORE iDVD starts to burn, it collects all data into a temp file, THEN starts to burn (because, to avoid buffer underruns...ok, we had that)

so, my main concern would be:
how "crowded" is your harddrive?
your system needs some 5GB to work correctly, iDVD needs additional 10 - 15GB to work smoothly....

tell us, what your finder tells you ... 😉
