Apple TV w/5.1 update Airplay issue

Same problem here. I have a Sonos speaker attached to an airport express and it appears to be set up correctly but no sound.

I automatically assumed it meant audio when it said audio. So I hoped to send the audio from a movie playing either from iTunes or Netflix to my Airplay connected speakers. Turns out no audio.

BUT, I got the list of music on the screen from my computer. I selected a song - and - Audio!

So it appears you can send music that you choose on the AppleTV screen to any Airplay setup. But for me that did not include any audio from a video playing source.

Not sure exactly how you are trying to use this.

Mine works like this.

On the Apple TV screen, I choose Computers.

Then I select the computer with the music I want to play.

In the settings or on the screen of the Apple TV, I can choose which Airport Express I want to send the music to.

It works like it should.

Mine doesn't work trying this.

Play a slideshow from my iPod Touch or iPad along with music.

I can see the slideshow on the Apple TV but no matter where I try and send the music, it always comes out of the Apple TV.

Not sure if this is how it is designed, but it probably is using it this way.

So, how are you trying to play music from the Apple TV to any of your airplay devices?

I guess I missed that only music could be played. Why not audio from TV shows or Movies? Seems like it should work exactly the same.

I get the same thing. Looks like the audio based apps can be broadcast, but not video. This might be because airplay cannot sync the video and audio closely enough

BUT........ I can actually play music videos in music app using itunes match, so that seems to debunk the theory in a way. It might be out just a touch but it is close enough they should allow the option!

You might experiment with changing movies into designated as music videos in itunes, then maybe they will allow audio broadcast

ya i've got a movie playing with broadcast audio now that I have set it as a "music video"

just one question now......how do I control the volume???

For me, the AirPlay speakers option only work with music and not the audio track on a movie.

But I want it to work with movies.

If I want to listen to music on my Airplay speakers, I could have easily set it from my iDevice or Mac. There is no need to go through the ATV!

Had this too- reset of ATV fixed it

Fixed what?

hold down select-->speakers-->go to the slected speaker and you will see a blue bar, left right arrows to change volume.

Note: no volume control on the souce appletv, but does show up for other appletvs you stream too

The original question: Problem is no sound comes out of those speakers. Everything still comes from the TV.

if you restore the atv3 will sound then play on airplay speaker when playing a movie from netflix?

this used to work on a former beta version i've tried it before and i worked perfectly fine. Strange the new final versions not working 😟
