if i buy a iphone in the usa, would i have to pay tax in the uk airport?

i'm going to new york within the next 2 months and i really want to buy an iPhone. but, i have the issue of not knowing whether i'd have to pay tax when i return to the uk. i really need to know as i would most definitely love to buy an iphone in which i can't afford in the UK.

iPhone 4S, iOS 6

You would also need to check it will run on a European network. Not all iPhone 5's run on all networks

And yes, you would legally have to pay, Import duty and VAT as its over your goods allowance. But if of course it was a phone you bought in UK and took out with you then no tax. Only if they find packaging or reciepts on you to prove you imporrted it can they bill you (The postal service is a wonderful thing!)

Yes you'll have to pay, & if you don't declare it, & get caught...I'm sure you'll enjoy that experience. Not to mention, you'll be the proud owner of an iPhone that won't work or activate in the UK...that's because there are no officially unlocked iPhone 5's available in the US.

Still sound like a good plan? If you can't afford one in the UK, think you can afford to go through all of the above with a US iPhone?
