Unable To View System Information

Hi there!

To make a long story short, I had to reformat and partioned my drive. During this process, I forgot my "short name" and guessed incorrectly when I put in a new one. I figured out the problem, and prior to loading any apps or anything, I created a new account, with full privledges, and logged into it. Now I had an account with my old "short name" and I could retrieve files from a backup. I deleted the original "account" as I wasn't going to need it. Well, since this little exercise, when I clikc Apple>About This Mac, the button for "more info" is grayed out and obviously does not work.

Anyone run into this before? Any ideas would be appreciated, I really would like this to work correctly...

Hi Randy,

I used "spotlight" to find it, and it is simply not there. I'm at a loss! I wonder if I deselected it somehow during my custimazation of my latest OS X re-birth when doing the boot camp bit...

Hmm, if it is on the install disk, and of course it is, do I just need to boot up on the install disk and add the folder somehow? I don't think I can read the contents of the Install disk in Finder, can I?

I know this won't help your situation much Bob, but I would NEVER delete the original account as I have had problems in the past running a mac from a second account, even though it had "full admin" privileges.

In your case it would seem the best thing would be to backup what needs to be backed up and re-install the system again, this time with the correct short username and you should be fine.

best of luck
