I was really hoping that I would be able to airplay to multiple speakers from my Apple TV with the update released today, September 24. Is this not possible?
Rhetorical question for Apple: If this was not implemented in this update, why is this functionality limited to Airplay in iTunes on the desktop?

Not that I see from the Apple TV itself.
You would have to ask Apple why they don't do that as this is just a user forum.
I was hoping for the same thing and am very dissapointed that this feature isn't included. Apple missed a big opportunity here. I was hoping my TV could become the center of my music streaming, using iTunes Match, throughout my house. Unfortunately, I still need to use my computer to stream to more than one Airport Express. Hopefully this will be available in a future update,
I agree this should have been an added feature with airplay for appletv. Think about how much energy we would save just by using appletv to power our music needs rather then a Mac streaming iTunes to multiple scourges.
I would also love to see this functionality added and was wondering if I was missing something. However, I think it's an iOS limitation since you can only stream to one AirPlay device at a time from any iOS device. If its due to battery life then at least add it to the AppleTV since its always plugged in.
The limitation appears in both iOS and AppleTV. I am playing music from my Homeshared iTunes library to my HiFi through AppleTV. When trying to play it through Airplay it stops every other song ... but I can stream through AirPlay to as many speakers I want from the MacBook Air. If I want to play a whole playlist uninterupted to my HiFi I need to stream from my iOS devices or from the AppleTV, but then I'm stuck with only one set of speakers.
Is there a channel where this kind of issues can be flagged / suggested to Apple for next improvements ? I have the impression that these user forums are not really interesting enough for Apple to actually check what users are saying ...
I believe the ability to stream from Apple TV to multiple airplay devices was available on the original Apple TV, but disappeared in ATV2 and 3. I have three additional Airport Express units around the house and would love to able to stream to all of them from ATV, similar to the feature in iTunes for desktop.
I've been hanging on to this hope for years, hope they deliver soon.
