iPhone 5 bad call voice quality

Got the new iPhone 5 and have bad phone call quality. The recipient of the call seems to be able to hear me ok, but their voice either isn't there or drops out or sounds grainy like when you have bad cell reception. Many times, the calls have just not connected. I know that that my cell reception and the recipients cell reception were excellent. This has occured when calling other cell phones, land lines, and toll free numbers. Anyone else having this issue? Have an appointment at Apple tomorrow morning to see what they think.

yes, congratulations rickyfrom pittsburg!

i updated my OS to 6.0.2 and performed the 'sk1sk1 test'. major drop-outs in sound of in coming voice at lower volumes. 😟

while i have been glad to discover this forum and find that i am not the only one experiencing this problem, i have to say i am majorly disappointed with the iphone5, my first iphone.

does the iphone4s have the same problem? or do i just go to another vender (andriod, samsung or BB) to get a phone that works as a phone??

Thanks!

So I tried the suggested experiment this am. I called the number and it was fine on the regular phone, it had to be at the third bar of volume for the headphones before it was clear enough to hear what they were saying. I hope that helps. Who knows if the 6.0.2 update did anything for voice. It seems to be better now after a day of use. Of note, my phone did not recognize the update until I hooked it up to iTunes (which I was actually about to backup to return the phone). Close call!

I love the new GPS features of the iPhone 5 and Siris and other features, but should if not also still be a phone??

Yesterday, while I was driving, during a business call, a customer tried to tell me a phone number, number by number... I was unable to get the number, all I heard was ..th and "nn" was that seven or nine? again, my customer "n," annnoooyying! useless... First, I told my customer to hang up and I would call back.... the same...

I write more emails now as I I don't want to be on the phone anymore, the audio quality is so bad... I already swapped the phone once for a new one and it is still the same. I never had this problem with my iPhone 4. I don't know what to do... I think I need to go back to my iPhone 4. First I need to change the case, the plug for the headset is damaged and the headset does not work any longer.

The problem seem to be widespread, my girlfriend just got her iPhone 5 and she complains about the same thing. IPone to iPhone I think it is even worse.... APPLE HELP! Do something, do it soon....

I have the exact same problem in the United States. Returning and exchanging iphone5 did not make a difference. Verizon is saying they have never heard of the issue. It's sad that all these real user stories are dismissed as 'the internet'. I used an AT&T sim card on Verizon Iphone5 and it did not have the problem (with minimal testing). I am guessing it has to do with CDMA+iphone5. It seems like this problem is in the Netherlands as well. My phone is pretty much useless in a conference call. It does everything great except voice call. I learned that nobody reads these columns, so please call the support number to report the problem. No one takes these discussion boards seriously.

Same here...

iPhone 5 on Verizon with case.

I have a hard time understanding calls and have had some complaints about my voice quality as well from the other end. Similar problems as to those stated in this thread; choppy, robotic, drop outs, muffly.

Some have said that turning LTE off has improved the call quality. I will test this tomorrow and update with results.

This is unacceptable Apple/Verizon. There is no way these hundreds of iPhone 5 users are having random issues. Acknowledge and fix your problem. Can't believe I may have to go back to a Galaxy here in a second...

@dysphonix, Verizon denied ever hearing this issue, and they swore that I was the first. There are no notes in their internal tracking system that anyone has ever heard of this issue. I tried to show them these discussion board. They believe these user posts are not legitimate complaints. Please go to a store or call them and log a formal complaint. I am definitely surprised that I am allegedly the first person that reported this problem to them.
