iPhone 5 bad call voice quality

Got the new iPhone 5 and have bad phone call quality. The recipient of the call seems to be able to hear me ok, but their voice either isn't there or drops out or sounds grainy like when you have bad cell reception. Many times, the calls have just not connected. I know that that my cell reception and the recipients cell reception were excellent. This has occured when calling other cell phones, land lines, and toll free numbers. Anyone else having this issue? Have an appointment at Apple tomorrow morning to see what they think.

I have a solution, worked for me

  • Take out the sim
  • Take phone back to Apple
  • Get a refund
  • Put the sim in a Sony Xperia Z
  • No more call quality problems!

Have been an iPhone user long before the original was on sale in the UK, have had every model since, this iPhone 5 call quality issue and the attitude of Apple towards it has made me switch to Android.

No more trips to the Genius Bar for me - just to be told i'm the one with the problem, not the phone!

@ Arnech

I do not want to disappoint you but a reset (soft or hard) fixes this problem only for a couple of days, I did both more then once and always after a week the problem was back, this is a temp solution.

Only fix for me was changing to a provider who is supporting HD voice, since my change all problems are gone.

Check if your provider is supporting HD voice, if not, change to a provider who is supporting HD voice and all your problems will be gone....

I have posted two times earlier on this thread. The last post was to tell that the new phone I got did not have call quality problems (of four phones with different issues).

I am sorry to tell that that lasted for two weeks. The phone is back to the partly choppy, partly muffled sound quality. It is fairly consistent now even in places with good reception. I have also heard that many others have this issue with iP5 here.

For everybody in Norway: stay away from the iP5. Apple do no bother to fix this and think more on the economics than the buyer (relying on more people keeping the phone than people having the issue or complaining).

I think Sony's new phones are better and more reliable options.

Same unacceptable, indiscernible, NO quality conversations to be had on this iPhone 5. Difficulty of having a conversation on a scale of 1-10 is peaked at 10 being the worst. Listening to my voice messages to verify this is the case, lack of any quality, let alone being able to understand one word is EVEN WORSE on playback. Try it. I will lose clients leaving indiscernible messages. UNUSABLE. I won't go the routes of SIM swap out(s), "new" iPhone 5 etc., adjusting this, trying that. The users before me on this forum have all been down that road.

It's being returned promptly tomorrow morning. My destroyed but usable 3GS kills this POS conversationally.

Highly dissappointing.

Hello,

Here in belgium the same problems, but it is always related to the weather. When it is snowing it is very bad. But now already a few days without snow and still the problem exists. I switched from the original to the iphone 5 and the original one called better. Now I have less reception and bad phone quality. Should i bring it back to the shop?

Thanks.

MY SOLUTION: Took it to Apple, and got a replacement phone! I think some iPhone 5 are the ones with this problem! The new one I have hasn't give me trouble until know! Just go to an Apple Store and explain that you have "Robotic Calls" and that sometime you can't hear the other person talking and that in other cases they don't hear you! If you say only that people CANT hear you the will only replace the microphone! Good Luck!
