Sep 26, 2012 5:04 PM in response to benfromholyheadby funk daddy,I agree with benfromholyhead, that sounds like an altogether different problem related to your mic/handset. Has anyone been to the Genius Bar with this problem. It appears to be a very specific issue affecting relatively few users and can occur with any carrier in various countries.

Sep 26, 2012 5:13 PM in response to funk daddyby Applestastesogood,it could have something todo with wifi/lte bandwidth but its just a guess. I think more people have that than you think ! There are still tons of phones shipping right now so we will see.

Sep 26, 2012 5:33 PM in response to benfromholyheadby spincast,Seems to be pretty much all of the time. I rarely have full bars which is also odd. I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area, in which Verizon is supposed to be great. I have one bar in my house, so Verizon is sending me a network extender (femtocell) which will definitely help with signal. Maybe it will help with voice quality as well.
It's all so odd, because all of the reviews laud the iphone with claims of superb voice quality (better than previous iphones or Android devices). Not so much in my case. Would be fantastic if it's a fixable software issue (probably too much to hope for). At best it might be a limited hardware issue, at worst a design issue.
Anyone know if the iPhone5 will support VoLTE?

Sep 26, 2012 6:05 PM in response to funk daddyby sammyjg,I had 4 bars and experienced the exact same problems. I don't think it is a network/signal issue, but possible a software or hardware issue. It's affecting multiple phone carriers in the US & Europe.

Sep 26, 2012 6:35 PM in response to Applestastesogoodby benfromholyhead,My best (un-educated) guess: this problem relates to how the iPhone 5 is de-coding incoming voice. It seems to be lacking depth / pitch and I think we will soon see ios 6.0.1 to address the issue.

Sep 26, 2012 6:57 PM in response to benfromholyheadby sammyjg,Wouldn't you think if this was some type of design flaw for all iPhone 5 devices or a software issue w/ IOS6 it would be a much larger issue for Apple and a lot more people would be speaking out.
When you pay assembly workers in China $1.78 per hour to build these phones, I would imagine there are some quality control issues. Perhaps we just received defective devices (hardware). I would think there would be a lot more complaints if this was some type of design flaw affecting all IPhone 5 devices. I don't think anyone swapped out their phone because they are all on back order.
