The same problem with O2 (UK). Apple, fix it ASAP.

I would have to disagree--"but if it would be just hardware wouldnt the problem appear all the time ?".

Hardware components that are defective can work intermittently. An antenna or microchip can be defective and work properly at times.

I think it's safe to say it is NOT a network/carrier issues and it is NOT a signal strength issue.  It could be an IOS issue, but I would think that if it was an IOS6 issue there would be a lot more forums and negative reviews regarding this problem.  I've found that every reputable company that has reviewed the IPhone 5 has praised the call quality. There have been some complaints regarding other issues, but call quality has not appear to be a pandemic problem.

    Another bit of data here...

I've been speaking with people I know who've been using both AT&T and Verizon over the past few years, and they've confirmed that the networks just "sound diffrent" which is what I could be experiencing. All of us are trying to describe the sound issues, and they seem similar, but it's possible we are experiencing different problems.

I switched from AT&T to Verizon which, according to the people I've talked to, sounds tinnier and more autotune-like. One of those people switching from Android Verizon phones to an AT&T iphone 5 say that it sounds richer/so much better/etc. Even a Verizon rep said that the differences take a litle getting used to.

This certainly doesn't explain complaints of bad call quality on AT&T or O2, so take it for what it's worth. My final test will be to put an AT&T sim card in my Verizon phone and see if that addresses my issue. If it does prove to be a Verizon issue for me, I'll just have to hope for an early deployment of Verizon's VoLTE service.

Call Quality is bad for me too. Initially for a first couple of days I thought I never noticed it but for the last 2/3 days it happens on everyone

The person on the other end tells me that they can herar me fine and quality is great.

Incoming or outgoing , 3G or LTE its the same

I am swtiching from AT&T and Verizon and I thought Version was suppposed to be a better network but i guess this is not related to a netwrok.

I think something is going on with the phone decoding the voice.

Just praying it is not a hardware issue or a bad antenna design and can be fixed via a software update.

I am worried it has got something to do with the single LTE chip that apple is using for both voice and data

Fine... same problem here in germany (there is no LTE on O2). and 3G is not good as with iPhone 4 in my office. the robotic voice is terrible and the thousands switches between the network, too.

    it's foul: apple lose quality

    - an iPhone 5 with a speaking quality of a old analog line telefone of the 90th...

    - Mac OSX Mountain Lion has bluetooth issues and so you must use older usb input divices...

here it is with an telefon on an radio, which is calling bei an iphone 5

Same in Germany in D1 (Telekom) Network :(

Did anyone talk to apple already? Is it worth it to change the phone?

  • joos8123 Level 1 (0 points)

I had apple swap out my iPhone 5, but it didn't fix the problem.

  • benfromholyhead Level 1 (0 points)

I've had 3 calls today and all have been ok.

These were incoming and outgoing and to mobile and land.

  • benfromholyhead Level 1 (0 points)

Thanks for clearing that up joos, I thought you said you did. Did they comment on the problem / have you been in further contact with them? I have not contacted support yet. Plus I live 80 miles from an apple shop.

I wouldn't say it's fixed just yet, but the 3-4 calls I had today also seemed much better. Let's hope they're working overtime to get this resolved.

  • Applestastesogood Level 1 (0 points)

fixed by who and how ?

  • funk daddy Level 1 (0 points)

Not necessarily fixed. Although it seems to be improving for me at least. I'll need a couple more days with clear calls before I suggest mine is fixed.

  • joos8123 Level 1 (0 points)

They didn't say anything about the problem when I swapped it at Apple - its likely they didn't find anything in their diagnostic. I have not talked to Apple again since then though. I did call AT&T, but they couldn't provide anything useful. On a sidenote, my wife has the iPhone 5 also and has the same problem too with call quality.

I am the OP's brother.  We were talking about it and it seems to only be affected when he is in/near his condo which is 4 stories tall with a lot of other residents.  We are thinking that maybe the wifi that could be causing the problems.  He has Verizon Fios there.  The problem seems to goes away when he is out and about away from the condo's. Does everyone else have the problems only when they are near a wifi source?

  • benfromholyhead Level 1 (0 points)

Happened on wifi in work around about 6 APs on that floor / in range. Happened driving past a McDonnalds and they have powerful wifi...
