    Hey :-),

over here in Germany (Telekom) it is a bit different: Some ppl say that it looks a lot better now and some still do have issues. For myself I can say it looks great right now. Ppl also say, Apple will exchange iPhones which are still not working due to failures with internal circuits - no official source here.

I too updated last night to 6.1 (tried the 6.02 update as well and that didn't fix my problem).  I called the Hertz # today and it sounds great, no choppy cut-outs even with only one bar of volume (lowest setting).   Before the upgrade I had to listen with the volume set to at least 5 bars to avoid cut-outs.

I think Apple may have finally fixed this.  I'll claim victory when back home in my local cell footprint where I make most of my calls from.  I know the Hertz-800 # issue was exhibited there.  Oh, and this is a Verizon phone.

Again, for me, the main issue was choppy cut-in and cut-outs when the other party was talking low (like folks around a speaker phone in a conference room and someone a ways from the mic) and when I am using the headphones and I have the volume low on my end, like 4 or lower.  Having others on the other end talk louder and turning up the volume on my end, until today, seemed like the only remedy to avoid the choppiness.

I *REALLY* think this is (was) a "low source volume + low output volume + over-zealous noise cancellation" *BUG* (patent pending on the bug title)...and I am hoping it is fixed.

Will claim it fixed when I do more testing, but for now, MUCH BETTER!

after the 6.1 update the problem seems to be gone!

    no more robotic voice.

    good so.

Well, probably for some of us the time has come to say thanks to Apple! Better late than never!

  • kcn81 Level 1 (0 points)

Ya, saying thanks for not telling the customers anything?

Yeah, they're lucky there isn't a mass exodus away from iPhones from a debacle like this. They should be thanking us by sticking around after 5 months of terrible call quality.

And from everything I've deduced thus far after the 6.1 upgrade, it only addresses nominal improvement in the noise cancelation and the fidelity while still maintaining the over-compressed roboticized quality (at least on mine).

Iphone 5, T-Mobile in Prague, the Czech Republic. Still very poor (drop-outs, "robotic voice" audio) even after the installation of 6.1. Oh well.

iPhone 5, T-Mobile Germany, iOS 6.1 still robotic voice. That's annoying, annoying, annoying!!

It seems as though this is still an unfinished product in the global sense.  Some carriers in some countries should be fine (according to this link).  Maybe if you show this list to your carrier, then you may be able to either get a refund or petition Apple to get an update soon or 4/4s replacement.

But for Germany Deutsche Telekom is on the list. I'm a Deutsche Telekom customer and still have that annoying robotic voice problem. I have 3-4 bars signal strength and can not make a single call at my home office. I have to us an android phone. With iPhone 4 call quality was OK.

After upgrade to 6.1  - same BS - no improvement! Its on Verizon service. Now what?!

  • nauticalendeavorer Level 1 (0 points)

My phone problems have gotten much better with the upgrade to 6.1.  No more fading in and out or choppy calls, and I can actually have a phone call with the ear buds.

However acceptable this is, it is still a far cry from my old cell phone quality and Apple needs to keep working it.  If I start talking to someone while they are talking to me, their voice cuts out.  Also the calls using the ear buds are very robotic sounding.

Thanks I don't have to switch to another phone, but unless the quality gets better I will not purchase another iPhone.

I did not realize the T-Mobile is a subsidiary of DT.  That really is horrible.  So not fixed 100% for even those on that list (VZ in the states and T-Mobile in DE).

Same problem with T-Mobile  Prague Czech Rep. 6.1 not tested yet.

Can be network problem ?? and HD voice problem..

I would have thought the logo and "T-" in the name might have given it away. :-)

Just to report, for me here on my phone in the UK, 6.1 has fixed most of the audio issues (I had issues previosuly with 3/Vodafone/EE SIMs - my phone is unlocked). All these now seem resolved and HD calls iPhone to iPhone now actually sound HD, though still not as good as on a cheapo Galaxy Ace or Nokia E5. Headphone volume is also much improved and I can acutally hear the other party on the headphones now. Friends on EE still report issues going from 2G to 3G coverage (having to flip airplane mode), but my network (3) is 3G only so could never see this myself.
