Sep 25, 2012 6:30 PM in response to mgshortby copdawg812,I'm having the same issue but have a new MacBook Pro with Retina display and Mac OSX 10.8.2 - so I don't think it's your phone. I get the same message saying it wasn't supported. Anyone have any ideas?

Sep 26, 2012 6:15 AM in response to copdawg812by Bropark08,I too am having this exact problem with my new iPhone 5 and my MacBook Pro running 10.8.2 (March '11 model). They pair with each other but the iPhone always displays "Device not supported" then erases the pairing from the MacBook. It is confusing how 2 fairly new Apple products are unable to communicate through Bluetooth.

Oct 5, 2012 3:40 PM in response to mgshortby New York Biker,I just got the Iphone 5. As I am testing a Bluetooth intercom system (Motorcycle Helmet) for Sena, I originally had my Iphone 4 paired to it. It was incredible!!! Since pairing the Iphone 5, I couldn't make phone calls with Siri on. Also, the voice recogintion is REALLY bad. With the 4, I had no problem going through the list of options and was amazed when I sad "Play List - Fall2012 - and it started playing. With the 5, I get what I kind of expected with the 4, Cannot find Playlist - Call2012. Grrr We've tested it with other phones using the android operating system, as well as other iphone 4's and 5's. The only phone that has a problem is the 5. Maybe it has to do with the Sena being a Bluetooth 3.0 and the iphone 5 being a bluetooth 4.0? Whatever it is, its not good. So far, I'm thinking "upgrading" was probably not worth the price.

Oct 6, 2012 10:51 AM in response to mgshortby sdposton,Hello everyone, I too was having the same issue pairing my Iphone 5 with my Lexus, I did find a button on the touch screen of the car that returned the Bluetooth to the "Default State" as soon as I did it paired up and worked perfectly. BTW, I had already deleted the previous Iphone, there must have been residual code in ther or something. I hope this helps you.

Dec 12, 2012 6:17 AM in response to jmmjby diesel vdub,Actually, it does "just work".
What specifically are you trying to do in regards to the iPhone and the Mac with Bluetooth? Syncing via Bluetooth or file transfer is not supported and never has been with the iPhone.

Dec 12, 2012 6:34 AM in response to diesel vdubby jmmj, what i am trying to do is get the iphone to connect via blutooth to the mac
i am not trying to sync it or file transfer it
just connect it
it finds it
i enter the info and it pairs it and then on the iphone 5 screen it says that the macbook pro is unsupporrted
maybe there is no reason to actually connect them but surely they should connect
i got the magic mouse connected no probs

Dec 12, 2012 6:47 AM in response to jmmjby diesel vdub,The only thing the iPhone can connect to a computer for via Bluetooth is tethering, meaning sharing the phone's Internet connection with the computer.
There is no reason to pair the iPhone with the computer otherwise.

Dec 17, 2012 9:33 AM in response to diesel vdubby boombeli,Are you for real?! There are any number of reasons why people would want to be able to connect their phone to their computer via bluetooth. Here are just a few examples:
- File transfers
- Phone backups (Pictures / data / settings etc)
- Contact transfers
- iTunes / Music sync
- etc.
Android and Blackberry phones have been able to do all this for years, so why Apple can't seem to manage it is a bit embarrasing, if you asked me!

Dec 17, 2012 10:03 AM in response to boombeliby diesel vdub,Well, no one asked you.
This is the way iOS has been since 2007. It has not impacted the acceptance of the iPhone since it's introduction.
If those features are something you find necessary in your device, then choose a device and an OS that supports them.

Dec 18, 2012 2:07 AM in response to diesel vdubby boombeli,When I see someone write something as completely moronic as "There is no reason to pair the iPhone with the computer otherwise.", I feel compelled to comment just to set the record straight. If proper Bluetooth functionality is not something that you require, then fine. However, don't go making ridiculous sweeping statements assuming that no-one else would ever want this ability.
Perhaps you are one of the people who will also continue to use Apple's Map app instead of Google's app. Because there really is no reason to know the correct location of places, now is there? (Just in case you didn't get it, I was being sarcastic )
By the way, I did choose a different device for my personal phone. I bought a Samsung Galaxy S3 for myself which is an absolutely fantastic phone - easily the best phone I have ever owned (and believe me, i've owned a fair few). And yes, it does support all of the aforementioned Bluetooth features.
Unfortunately, I was given the iPhone5 by my company, and have had no end of problems with it . Hence why I seem to spend a lot of time on these support forums.
