On my iPad 1, iOS 5.1.1.
When I run iTunes u it gets as far as going to the catalog and then quits.
I have reset the iPad, reinstalled the app, etc. nothing works.
On my iPad 2, iOS 5.1.1 it works just fine.
What else can I do to make it work on the iPad 1?

Judy, try closing your Apps by double-tapping the button and tap and hold an icon in the lower strip menu until they shake, then hit the minuses to close them all. Then hold the power button until the red slide to power off comes up, and power off the iPad, then restart it. This worked for me on iTunes.
I did all that. Quit all apps. Reset, reinstalled, It just keeps quitting when loading the catalog.
I get kicked back to the home screen when i touch/flick the screen while the catalog is loading. If you wait for it to complete loading before doing anything then it works fine. Still annoying that you have to wait for it to completely load.
I waited without touching anything. It still quit right after featured appeared.
This fixed it for me.
On the iPad, turn on airplane mode. This shuts off wifi. Turn wifi back on. Check the ip settings, make sure they do not start with 169.. Renew lease. Shut the iPad completely down. Turn iPad back on.
iPad U now works.
iTunes u throws me back to home screen
