Hi again,

OK, I just looked at my System Preferences on my Mac (OSX Mountain Lion), and under the Preferences Menu, you will see an icon for Dictation and Speech in the System section. Click on that. You can then turn on Dictation, open a Word document, and under the Edit menu in Word, at the bottom, it will say "Start Dictation". Select that, and a little microphone will show up on your Word page.

According to the item, this same option should appear (i.e. the Start Dictation option under Edit) on any document that you can type on.....

Start talking, indicating puncuation, etc. and when you are done, click the Done on the mic. Your dictation will then be translated and the words will appear on the page momentarily!

Hope this is what you are looking for!

Cheers,

GB

Thanks Clinton but I've just worked out that the external mic I bought won't work with the line-in socket on my Mac. That's the cause of my trouble. The dictation software was actually trying to use the internal mic, which of course was giving poor results because I'm running it in clamshell mode. Anyone want an unused SPES clip-on external microphone?

Maybe in the UK, but the Oxford American Dictionary shows what I meant (2):

momentarily |ˌmoʊmənˈtɛrəli|

adverb

1 for a very short time: as he passed Jenny's door, he paused momentarily.

2 at any moment; very soon: my husband will be here to pick me up momentarily.

I'm not perfect, but I rarely misuse words. The reason for that is twofold....I am constantly consulting a dictionary or thesaurus when I am writing English. I got my Masters in English and my husband is a Professor of English. So, words and grammar hold a high position in our household....😁

Cheers,

GB

Sorry - wrong Dictionary reference....the cut and paste was from the Mac/Apple Dictionary. However, the OAAD has the same two meanings listed.... 😀
