Oct 20, 2012 4:47 AM in response to Mauro Gracitelliby AppleStarBR,Mauro,
Great news! Would you mind to share what did you do (or what Apple did) to make your phone work? That would help all people on this thread...

Oct 20, 2012 5:01 AM in response to AppleStarBRby Mauro Gracitelli,I don't know what they did.
It is something related to unlocking. I restored and activated with my local carrier and it worked fine, including SMS. No extra setting.
Check if your iPhone is really unlocked. I think iPhones from sprint are not really unlocked and that might be the problem.

Oct 22, 2012 3:18 AM in response to michael.vietnamby Avi India, guys i was discussing this on another thread and one of the suggestions that came forth actually worked...atleast for me in india...
you can read the below..
i tried sending the sms to an android phone and i tried sending the sms to a blackberry phone, while both sms's seem to go through, the android phone is the only phone that actually received the message...
all the best guys and hope it works for you guys as well....
I fond this try it
I had the same problem but was able to find a temporary workaround until Apple/Sprint releases some kind of fix. It's not perfect, but it gets me by for now. worked for me, but I don't know if it'll work for every locale:
I am outside the US and trying to use a GSM SIM card in a Sprint iPhone5 but could not send SMS messages (only receive)
Try this:
1. Go to Settings / Messages
2. Make sure "Show Subject Field" is on
3. Try sending a message but type your message in the subject heading instead of the main box. The key is that the subject line has to have something in it, even a " " blank space will do
I tried sending it this way to other iphones and smart phones and both the subject and body of the SMS would go through, but to older cell phones only the subject heading goes through, and only the first 39 characters.
Hopefully Apple/Sprint will come up with an actual fix, but I'm hoping this is of help to some people out there
C

Oct 22, 2012 3:23 AM in response to Avi Indiaby Pavel Yolshin,Avi India, this works in Russia too, but the message with a subject is not an SMS, it is an MMS - so the tariffication is different and it can not be recieved by some phones.
-
Oct 22, 2012 3:28 AM in response to Pavel Yolshinby Avi India, yes i do agree, and i believe the charges are more expensive as well, however i guess, untill sprint helps us figure a solution, in the interim, this could be a stop gap arrangement of sorts!

Oct 22, 2012 6:12 AM in response to Avi Indiaby Ashwath Narayan,Bought a Sprint iPhone 5 from US and using it in India with Airtel as carrier and landed up with non-working messaging . Apple is ready for replacing the phone but getting another Sprint iPhone 5 will not do any good as it looks like something to do with the Unlocking..

-
Oct 22, 2012 10:20 AM in response to Ashwath Narayanby Avi India,Hey a Ashwath seems like you and I are sailing in the exact same boat, however the most recent post gives us reason to be hopeful that there will be a work around eventually. Keeping my fingers crossed that the update comes soon and puts us all out of our miseries. Cheers

Oct 22, 2012 10:25 AM in response to Pavel Yolshinby Fabio_Locha,That's exctly what I always told, it's an Apple problem. The problem should be on the firmware/iOS for Sprint version, no hardware problem. The hardware is exactly the same if Sprint or Verizon, and the Verizon's works fine.
Well, I really hope it came soon....
