There is no enable LTE option on my iPhone 5, only enable 3G, why?

I have an iPhone 5 running on MTS in Canada, I cannot get LTE even though I am in an LTE area. In settings, it does not have the enable LTE on/off switch, but instead has enable 3G on/off. Why is that? and what can I do to get LTE to work? I have talked to MTS and they assured me that my account was set up for LTE and that everything should be working.

There is no set time when LTE will be available on the iphone 5 with MTS. The LTE network works well with MTS but currently our agreement with Apple does not allow us to activate it for the iphone 5. However we are working with Apple to get LTE access for the phone. I apologize about any inconvenience this may have caused you.

I realize that there is no LTE support at this time, however if you read the other posts above, MTS has been saying that they are working with Apple to turn on LTE support.


If you talk to MTS tech support, they have told customers that once the carrier load is updated LTE should work.


I was hoping that this latest 13.1 update was the one that would get LTE finally working, guess we have to keep wating.

After updating to iOS 6.1 on January 28, 2013, the option to enable LTE is available and the MTS connection is showing LTE instead of 3G. I got my iPhone 5 on September 28, 2012. So it took four months before MTS and Apple got the LTE to work! May be that is not too bad a record to have Manitoba Allstream actually making something work. I still cannot receive foreign language (Chinese, Japanese, Korean or Ukrainian) SMS text from senders using a different carrier (e.g. Rogers, Telus, Fido) . . . Hopefully in another four months?
