my iphone 4s won't connect via bluetooth to my garmin fenix gps watch

Hi there, i am trying to connect my iphone 4s with my garmin fenix gps watch via bluetooth. when i put the watch into bluetooth mode the iphone says it is searching for a device but never finds the fenix can anyone help
