10.8.2 and Epson printers

Snce updating to 10.8.2 I have not been able to use my Epson printers. The OS tries to lcoate and download the requried software, then reports failure. The Software Update defaults to App Store, then advises no updates are available. The Epson driver package unexpectedly quits just as it gets to the end of the installation process.

I have already reset the printer options, and repaired permissions.

Any tips?

Thanks, Shlomi.

Apologies for not getting back to you sooner, but the last week or so has been a blur at work.

I suspect the issue is something specific to my MacBookPro, rather than either the printer or Mountain Lion. My desktop iMac running the same version of Mountain Lion has no porblem printing to the Epson Workforce 633 here at home, and my work desktop has no troiuble printing to an Epson Workforce 435.

My MacBookPro will print to neither machine. It seems to be the common factor in the problem.

I have rest the printer preferences, reoaird permissions download the new Epson driver, etc - all to no avail.

For now I have a workaround with a folder on DropBox where I place items needing to be printed, but that is a pain in the proverbial ...

C'est la vie.

Never say beat 😉.

I do not have either of these printers here to test.

Let me confirm. You are at ML 10.8.2 on your MacBook Pro. You have run Software Update, and installed both the 10.8.2 Supplementary update, and the Epson Printer Drivers v2.12 for OS X, from that Software update? And you did run Disk Utility afterwards and verify/repair permissions, right? And you are not running any Anti-Virus software on OS X?

Both printers are powered on. You are attempting to configure each as a wired network entity, even though they have wireless configuration that you can address later? Each printer is on the same network subnet as your MBP?

Update: I just noticed from your screen capture that you were attempting to configure via USB (default), rather than network (IP).

Thanks, VikingOSX.

I had run disk repair etc a week or two back when these issues first occurred after upgrdaing to 10.8.2, but not more recently. In the meantime I have installed the ML Supp Update.

This evening I will go through all those steps again, and see what happens.

Yes, to keep it simpler, I was just trying to use the USB connection although I usually would have gone via the home wireless network.

Hmmm, Greg. That's very surprising that the system would ask to install the updates from Software Update if the current drivers have been installed. Have you done a search for Epson to see if anything is left after deleting the

/Library/Printers/Epson and /Library/Caches/Epson folders? That should clean the required driver parts from the system.

Thanks to everyone for their advice and support. As it happened, my early 2011 MacBookPro purchased in September last year had a serious hard drive error. Apple has now replaced the hard drive, and all is good. The printing is again functioning, as well as a few other issues being resolved. Can't speak too highly of the great crew at NextByte in Brisbane.

HI, I am also using Mountain Lion 10.8.2 in my macbook pro retina 13 and could not install the driver for Epson T13x. The error message displayed after trying to install the driver is "dmg not recognized". I have tried downloading from Epson's website and the same error appears.

I used parallel with Windows 7 and installed the windows driver of the same printer and the printer worked fine. However, I have my programs in OS X and need to print from there. Is this a problem with the driver not being compatible with OSX 10.8.2?
