after updating to iOS 6 gps signals are no more transmitted to tomtom or navigon

With iOS 5.x TomTom navigation worked fine. Now with iOS 6, I have to turn on the localization service (ok) AND the wifi. In fact, the gps data is not transmitted from the antenna to the application (TomTom or Navigon). iOS 6 is really not sexy...

Go figure? I have an IPhone 5 and IPad Mini both with the TomTom App v1.13 installed. Navigation worked perfectly under OS 6.1 (after some initial setting changes) and continues to work under OS 6.1.2. They work as unpowered hand held devices or in unpowered cradles with the devices powered from a TomTom cigarette lighter connect Fast Charger. Nothing sophisticated and no GPS boosting technology. I have been more than happy with the outcome.

I should have added that my Ipad Mini does not have cellular capability and is purely reliant on GPS signals to get a fix. This means that (unlike the IPhone) I have to be outside to pick up GPS signals to get my current location to plan a route. In retrospect it may have been more convenient to have the more expensive cellular version of the IPad and the associated cellular network costs. Nonetheless both are great GPS devices using TomTom navigation.

I have the last version of iOS6.1 on my iPod Touch as the newest version of TomTom (v1.13). All works fine. I have deactivated automatic time update and time zone, I stop wifi when I am in my car (no need !!!), I erase all last used applications (2x press on main button). I tune access rights to localization (Parameters/Privacy/Localization).

After going through the whole forum I have to agree that it is background apps that are trying to access location services. When I found the thread about turning off the automatic time update that did the trick. But it is too much trouble constantly monitoring which apps are trying to access location services. I just sold the wi-fi mini and the Dual XGPS150a and bought a Verizon version iPad mini. I really liked the accuracy of the Dual unit, but everything is working great now (I use Waze, Google Maps, and Apple maps while tethering from my iPhone and all work fine). No data plan costs and the 4G version costs the same as the wi-fi version and a $100 external gps receiver.

Guess Apple wins this round since I had to for out for the more expensive model.

I have also been through every post about this issue.

Annoyed with Apple that they have not fixed this yet, especially after 4 pages of issues with it.

The solution for me is the same as has been previously posted:

- Deactivate automatic time update and time zone

- Turn off wi-fi (I think that this is actually the key, as it seems to give a higher priority to wifi location than external GPS devices)

- Reset location permissions and restart (very important, but I will have to try the '2x press on main button' trick)

- Start your GPS app, and now it works.

I totally agree and would add that I feel very disappointed by Apple's lack of acknowledgement and progress on this issue. Some folks on this thread have abandoned their bluetooth GPS receivers and purchased new Apple equipment to avoid iOS6's defect. This is not a solution as it does not have the same accuracy. I have found that the suggested work-arounds get the iPad Touch to use the info from my Dual XGPS 150A but I still have to reset it often. Also I want to be able to use the location based features like Find My iPod and auto time zone which I have to leave switched off. Pretty poor effort Apple - I am considering alternatives.
