hi, i am not able instal mountain lion on mac book pro,2011 july edition which runs on leopard 10.6.8,it says your macintosh hd cant be used as the startup disk.i would be glad if someone could help me out

It may be how you have the drive formatted. Open Disk Utility, then click on the physical drive icon at the far left, as show below.
Now look at the lower right. The partition map should be GUID. If it says Apple Partition Map, that's why you can't install Mountain Lion.
YA IT SAYS GUID partion table,but still i am not able to instal it on my drive so plz help me out,i am in a lot of trouble right now
