Disk images failed to mount: not recognized.

I recently had to reinstalled Tiger. Now none of the updates will mount (single or combo). I've tried everthing suggested in discussions and nothing work. This all worked fine before and I'm using all the same software or less. The only thing I can think of is Apple changed something to get us to buy something. Why am I spending so much time doing their trouble shooting. I need to get to work. I might as well go to XP! Sorry fellow Mac users for my ranting. I just so bumbed out. Apple use to be something. Now I don't know what the heck they are. If anyone has any new solutions; please post. I'm back to 10.4 not 10.4.4

My error message is: Disk failed to mount. Reason ( not reconginzed)
Thanks

G 5 Dual 2.0, Mac OS X (10.4.4)

No, Apple didn't change anything to get you to buy something. You sound like you have a hardware or software issue that is affecting the ability of the Disk Utility to mount images.

Note these tips for upgrading, and if you are unable to upgrade using these tips, I suspect a hardware or software issue somewhere:

Caches are the first suspect. You might want to try creating a second administrator account and install from that.

Being that my dual 1ghz G4 is have the same problem with the images. It has not crashed and has 10.4.4 installed and nothing connected to it. And Nothing's changed on it since it was updated...
I still say it Apple's shoudie workmanship. I have 9.2.2 a Sawtooth that's been running for years same install...should I pull my 950 out of the closet? Maybe i should buy a iPod and watch some tv shows.

Rayzbo,
You may be surprised what can change under the hood to make things different. RAM can fail at anytime. Hard disks can fail at anytime. Discs which become overfull can lose directories attributes, or when you force shut down instead of use the Apple menu to shut down can lose directory attributes. And third party software installers can ruin permissions which need to be repaired. 9.2.2 can have many INIT conflicts, Type 41 errors, Type 11 errors, and directory errors too as well as a dialup that automatically dials when you don't want it too. No operating system is perfect. Let's work on resolving whatever issue is causing your problem, and not try to blame the bigger picture when all that will do is get you to assume worse than is true.
