iPhone 5 Showing incorrect Time. Unable to send text messages.

I called Verizon about this time issue today. I was told a fix has been identified and will be rolled out across the Verizon network around Christmas. This appears to only affect the iPhone 5.

This is my first Apple product, I am deeply disappointed. Everyone has been telling me Apple products were solid devices, they bashed the Droids, BB, etc... All this hype, the peer pressure got to me, I even waited in line to buy this device.

I question the time spent on this device during quality control. Who and how long did this device get tested?

After the latest OS update I turned LTE back on and my time has ben perfct ever since - Sprint in Atlanta

This just started happening to both my wife and I after owning the phones for 3 weeks with no issue. Of course something like this would happen after I decide to leave AT&T for Verizon. I don't know why it would start occurring after a few weeks of owning the phones.

I checked the Verizon forums and it appears to be some sort of LTE issue. It is also happening with the Galaxy S3 and at least one of the HTC phones. This leads me to believe it is not an apple issue. Verizon needs to figure this out. I have never had a time problem with any iPhone before.

I just spoke to Verizon. they admitted this is THEIR problem and NOT Apple's. A fix will be coming by "mid-December".

Here is my 'Band-Aid' for the matter:

Settings > Privacy > Location Services = "ON"

and Location Services > System Services > Setting Time Zone = "ON"

I have not had an incorrect time issue for about 24hrs. since enabling this setting, which far surpasses any recent interval of showing the correct time as of late.

Superfluous details:

- disabling LTE (as mentioned by others) does indeed prevent any reoccurrences, BUT I have chosen to leave this enabled as it is a key feature that differentiates the phone from the previous versions of the phone (and it is useful for obvious reasons)

- iOS 6.0.1

- my carrier is Verizon

- the only support I have sought out thus far was calling Verizon and talking to 2nd-tier support team member (i.e. my call was 'bumped up' by the 1st associate I spoke with), the result: "we are aware; it is Apple's problem not ours" (paraphrased).

- setting

Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically only briefly kept the issue at bay (~2 hrs.). Only temporary

- I have never had messaging issues that I am aware of.

- when the incorrect time was displayed it would always be off by ~0:26 min.

Hopefully this issue helps someone in the meantime while we wait for a fix!!

Shen168 I am having the exact same issue with my brand new iphone 5!! such a very basic thing like displaying the correct year wont work. A iOS6 software issue of course. My time and date displays correct, but just like yours it displays the friggin' year '2556 BE' !! (whatever the BE stands for i dont know), and I cannot change it when I try 'set automatically' time setting to 2012 but it immediately reverts back to 2556 BE year automatically - CRAZY!! Its frustrating as the date/year is shown on pretty much everything you use the phone for. Did you manage to solve this issue yet?

Is anybody experiencing the same issue and know of a solution to this???? Will a restore work? I have it backed up on my PC, so will I literally get EVERYTHING restored as if nothing has changed or dissapeared, wont need to download apps and apply settings again etc etc?

If it makes any difference, I am on EE network in UK. I hope someone can help me with this.

Edit: Another weird thing is that while trying to set the correct year, during setting it a pop up about Hotmail.com GlobalSign Root CA, Not trusted, Description:Server Authentication, Expires: 19 May 2556 BE 01:00:00.

I was told by Verizon corporate store that Apple would publish an update by mid-December. Well, guess what? It's coming up on mid-January and no update!

In order to keep my time, alarm and calendar accurate, I have to turn off the automatic time setting AND TURN OFF THE 4G LTE!

This *****, and after 2 months of it, I'm sick of it. When it's on 4G, this phone is smokin fast. I want my 4G Apple!

Why should we all have paid for an iPhone 5 and expected a better and faster phone, then end up with this crap? A phone with lousy reception compared to my 4S and one that can't keep time!

I don't know what fixed it for me but my phone hasn't had a time switch since the first month they came out. I got no definite answer from Apple or Verizon. But all is well again.

I'm so disappointed with my iPhone 5, I'm new to the Apple products and this is so irritating. I called back in to Verizon to inquire about the patch/fix release and was told that the information given to me in my prior call was incorrect and that this is a software issue that has to be resolved by Apple. The rep even indicated that they couldn't create a case # or support ticket because it wasn't something they could fix.

I called Apple tech support and they indicated that it wasn't an officially recognized problem. I sent the rep a few links to articles reporting the issue and to some of these forum threads. WAKE UP Apple and look into it!!!!

iPhone 5 on Verion.. I noticed this about a week after purchasing, around the end of Nov. The time would change randomly to an hr behind. Reboot would always fix it, but I got annoyed enough to contact apple support (after reading some of the earlier posts on this forum). The rep first tried to blame Verizon. After I mentioned that this is a known issue that is being discussed on the apple forums and is happening on Spint as well she did a 180. I was escalated to level 2 support and then performed the following troubleshooting:

-switch off auto time setting then back on

>didn't work unless I manually changed the time before switching auto back on.

-hard reboot (hold down home and power until phone shuts off)

>temporary fix (soft/normal reboot works just the same)

-reset network settings

>temporary fix

-erase all data and settings, restore from iCloud backup

>temporary fix

-erase all data and settings, setup phone from as new (no restore; major pain)

>temporary fix

After all of this Apple replaced my phone. I set it up last night and about an hour ago looked down and realized the time was behind by 1 hr again. FRUSTRATING! I don't travel a whole lot at the time, so I'm going to try leaving the time on the manual setting for now. I have noticed that I've only had the problem while connected to wifi - but not all wifi connections cause, but it's not just the one either. The first time it happened was at our hospital. Most of the time it's at my home. I haven't noticed it happen at all while on LTE...

Time was wrong on my iPhone 4S this morning. Off by 12 minutes. Time on my iPad was correct. Running most recent iOS, and on Verizon. Turning off auto time zone and shutting off/turning back on has fixed it for now.

I talked to the Apple store in southern California, and as soon as I mentioned My time was off, he asked if I was on verizon (which I am). HE said it is a problem with verizons towers sending out the wring time, and they will fix it soon.

I had this problem consistently - 4 iphone 5s did this on verizon. I tried turning off automatic time setting and it didn't work.

What did work as a bandaid was to intentionally set the clock 1-2 minutes off after turning off the automatic time setting. This worked for several weeks without the problem re-occurring.

Mine has done this since I got the new iPhone 5. I thought the two updates would have fixed it but they did not. My phone says its 4 hours earlier than it actually is. It does it when I have the set automatically on or off. The only way to fix it is turning the phone off and back on.. And sometimes that doesn't even fix it! Extremely frustrated!! Please fix ASAP!
