podcast plays after hanging up ios 6

I updated to iOS 6 on my iPhone 4 last night. I downloded the new podcast app. Today, whenever I hang up from a call, the podcast I was listening to last, starts playing. This is without the podcast being on when I started the call. Quite annoying when my phone rings on silent in a meeting and then starts playing a podcast out lod over the iphone's external speaker.

Myself and many of my family & friends in England and Australia have been embarrassed at work due to Apples' poor programming. Why couldn't we just leave the podcasts in the music app? It worked perfectly fine!! The way podcasts were handled was one of the reasons I didn't jump ship to Android like so many others are doing. Sort it out apple, please don't make me regret buying the iPhone5!!

I said this earlier in the thread but, since it's getting quite long:

While we wait for Apple to release a fixed version of the Podcasts app* you can use Downcast, which is perfectly able. I should probably clarify that I have no relationship with Downcast other than being a user.

I started using it when podcasts was still part of the music app and more fiddly. I switched back to the dedicated Podcasts app when I moved to iOS6 and am quite happy with it (despite the OTT skeuomorphism) other than the issue in this thread (which has me back to Downcast in the meantime).

Hope this helps.

* which I'm sure can't be long - doesn't sound like a terribly hard bug to fix - maybe it's just waiting for review! I'm sure they are aware of it. Acknowledging it ahead of a fix is not their style, however.

Ditto....Podcast app is a great idea but really broken in a few spots:

- Not that responsive when trying to navigate through the app

- Between the different 'Subscription' capabilities in the app itself and in itunes

- The random resuming play feature of the app after hanging up on a call is really annoying

Give me back Podcasts in the Music app

Today this bug actually cost me money. I was partway through a list of news podcasts and already over my mobile data cap for the month. [I am being careful now to download them while in a wifi zone...] Someone called me while I was at the gym and I was unable to answer my phone resulting in the podcast resuming playing and then automatically starting to download the next episode over 3G! 😠

AND, I should add that the "Auto-Download" pref for "Use Cellular Data" is OFF in my podcast preferences. 😕

Here in New Zealand the overage charges can be unreasonable, although this time it only cost me an extra $6 it is still pretty stupid.

rrrrroll on 6.0.1 I say.

I have an iPhone 5 and this is happening to me also. But it is happening in playing my audibooks, which is what I usually listen to. It happens almost every time. It is unpredictable and very frustrating-- as I keep losing my place and with the blackout in New York, losing precious battery life.

I am posting this in 2 places and will also now submit to the apple bug report as well. Extremely frustrating, but glad to know I'm not the only one.

While it is annoying it is not unexpected.

Bear in mind that a key reason the Podcast app was split out of the Music app in the first place was so that its release cycle is not tied to the OS release cycle.

It's an App Store app. It can be updated anytime.

Which, of course, makes all the less excusable that it has not been fixed already!

Keep filing those radars, as palessi suggests. Apparently they don't take them seriously until they get some minimum number of duplicates.

If other background audio applications [ones that ship with the phone like the music player etc] are also experiencing this issue then it may be something more like an iOS 6 API bug rather than something specific to the podcast app...

I did also attempt to submit a bug report but the site insisted that I a: did not have an apple ID which I certainly do and b: needed to be a registered developer which I also am. I may submit a feedback form instead.
