podcast plays after hanging up ios 6

I updated to iOS 6 on my iPhone 4 last night. I downloded the new podcast app. Today, whenever I hang up from a call, the podcast I was listening to last, starts playing. This is without the podcast being on when I started the call. Quite annoying when my phone rings on silent in a meeting and then starts playing a podcast out lod over the iphone's external speaker.

I am also having this issue. Here are my conditions when it happens. I have left a podcast in stopped/paused state any number of hours earlier (up to 12 in my longest experience). When the podcast was last active, it was being used via bluetooth audio. One tie-in is that it always happens when the phone is locked. It has happened to me when:

-I snooze my morning alarm, the podcast starts playing.

-I deferred an incoming call with the new "I can't talk right now" text option and the podcast started playing. Ironically, I did this in a meeting because I couldn't take the call and didn't want to disturb the meeting. Everyone enjoyed the surprise podcast show. Doh!

-I answered an incoming call when the phone was locked, after I ended the call the podcast started playing.

I have a 4s.

It's also now done it after I used Siri to compose a text.

Went into messages, tapped into text box (to bring up on-screen keyboard), held phone up to head and heard the single beep for composing text, talked, then put it down ending the Siri interaction.

The text was composed perfectly but the music also began playing (at a low volume, probably what I had it set at). I think I also had the phone in silent mode having just come from work.

Very disappointed to see such a disruptive and easily-triggered bug appear in a supposed master release of iOS software.

This has been happening to me too. I've switched back to Downcast, which (so far) does not seem to have exhibited the problem.

I can corroborate the conditions everyone else has been citing:

  1. Podcasts app was the last audio app in use.
  2. I was listening to the last podcast over bluetooth.
  3. Happens intermittently after ending a call, snoozing the alarm or, one time, changing a ringtone.

This is on an iPhone 5. I had iOS 6 beta on my iPhone 4, but I wasn't using the Podcasts app then, so I don't know if the problem was present at the time or is new to the release.

Very annoying. Hope it gets fixed in the first patch release.

I'm having the exact same issue on a 4S. It's driving me crazy. It's happened when turning off an alarm, ignoring a meeting notification, but mostly hanging up calls. The last straw was when I had a podcast just start blaring (while phone set to silent) in a meeting last Thursday, so I made an appointment with the genius bar. They said they had no idea what was going on, we did a restore, same issue, so they gave me a new phone. New phone doing the exact same thing. Extremely frustrating.

Seriously? A new phone? It's quite simply a software/iOS 6 issue, nothing wrong with the phone. Quite reproducable at that and I'm sure the in-store phones do it too. It's something to do with whatever makes the phone remember it was last switched off by yanking out the headphones, rather than pausing or quitting Podcast--the phone checks at the end of the phone call/Siri interaction to see if it should restart the music (as it would do if you received and completed a call or used Siri without stopping the music first), and whatever "flag" that would normally tell it, "Hang on, I got paused" isn't set, so it restarts the music. Seems very much like the Podcast app not setting something it should do when the headphones are removed.

Think I could take it in and get them to swap my 4S for a 5? Or better yet, my girlfriend's 4 for a 5???

Why would you be hostile about Apple replacing someone's phone? There was a problem, they didn't know how to fix it, they checked if it was hardware related. No one asked for a new phone, it was offered. They didn't upgrade anything, they swapped it out with the exact same hardware. The geniuses were unaware of the issue, at least they said they were. I don't know why they would lie and then waste money by replacing a perfectly fine phone with a like model.
