i cannot get my ical to sync with my iPhone 4s.

When I try to set up my caldav account for google to have my google calendar on my ical on my iphone I keep getting an error message saying it can't set up with the ssc account and asks me if I want to try without. It doesn't verify that way either. I've been working on this today alone for 4 hours but trying for 5 days with no luck. Any suggestions?
