Status Bar Not Showing please help me!!!

Go to the MENU ICON in the top left corner (tiny Black/Gray Box Icon - very top left corner)

Click SHOW MENU BAR

Click VIEW on the MENU BAR

Click SHOW STATUS BAR

I selected the option to Show Status Bar but it still does not show on the bottom. Any other ideas? I'm running Windows 8. Could that be a proble?
