Cannot upgrade iPhoto 9.1.4 to higher version

I have iPhoto installed, version 9.1.4.

I have OS 10.7.5 running, and App Store version 1.1.2.

I need to use Photo Streams with iCloud on my Mac , which I have running on iPad and iPhone.

However, I cannot use Photo Streams without updating to the new iPhoto version 9.4.

That's where it gets tricky;

1. when I click on Updates in the Mac App Store, there's the latest 9.4 version of iPhoto waiting to be installed. When I click on 'Update' however, it gives an error (18). It also says that the request cannot be completed and that "The app (iPhoto) cannot be accepted on this computer: Future updates of this app can be found through 'Software Update' in Systems menu".

2. When I try to work around this problem by not using Mac App store but when I download either iPhoto 9.2.X or 9.4 directlyvia support.apple.com, and I try to install any newer version than the one I have, It warns me that with the current version of iPhoto I am running on my Mac, I need to update it using the Mac App store. So that doesn't work either.

For weeks now I am stuck and cannot use Photo Streams on my Mac because iPhoto won't update.

What can I do?

Thanks for your help,

Anthony
