Why is iTunes so frustrating and un-user friendly?

Hi all,

I switched from an android phone and table to the iPad and iPhone about 6 months ago and cannot believe how much easier to use they are. I've not had one single issue with Apple's hardware and honestly don't think I could live without my iPad, it's my TV, my library, my stereo, my PC. I use it for absolutely everything.

However, iTunes for Windows is one of the worst pieces of software I have ever used. I have a 2.6ghz laptop with 8gb of ram running Windows 7. iTunes is constantly hanging up my system, crashing to the desktop, taking hours to do a simple sync and tonight I have encountered an issue where iTunes is refusing to import the mp3s I have asked it to.

I have booked a call for tomorrow morning regarding the latter issue, but I really just want to know why iTunes isn't as good as their hardware. It really ruins my user experience with my Apple products. How can they get their hardware so right and their software so wrong? The maddening thing is that unless I jailbreak my products I have absolutely no choice but to use iTunes to get content onto my devices.

I've done a Google search on iTunes problems and there literally thousands and thousands of people who have been experiencing these issues year after year. Funnily enough it appears to be Windows users that suffer the most, iTunes seems to run as you would expect it to on Macs.

I'm so frustrated that if my play around with my friends new Google Nexus tablet goes well at the weekend I may sell my iPad and iPhone and return to android, that is of course if the Nexus can do what my iPad can do, and do it well.

Does anybody have any suggestions on how to make iTunes work better or have any insight into the reason why Apple does not seem to be listening to the thousands of people complaining about the iTunes software? Any input would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

A very frustrated and disappointed iPad lover!

iTunes has far over 100 million users, so a few thousand complaints is actually a very small number.

I'm with you! I truly LOATHE iTunes. I seriously think Apple said "lets make this as un-user-friendly as we possibly can so they can upload they're music to their devices and they'll say screw it pay us for Apple Music instead", and then they say their evily laughing as they rubbed their hands together!

Seriously!!!?? Apple??? I can't get one **** song onto my phone or iPad with iTunes! My husband hates it equally as bad! It's bad! Really bad! The device doesn't show up on the left bar anymore to drag and drop songs to it!! Sync is totally grayed out so that options out!

We have one laptop in the house that My husband and I share and it's nearly impossible to share it for iTunes. I plug in my phone and the songs that were on his phone are showing up on the screen!!

You seriously suck Apple iTunes!

I don't find it unfriendly at all, but I find it to be slow on the PC, especially when managing apps, which is not a pleasant experience - far too cumbersome in that tiny little window they give you.

Here's hoping the new version might improve things in that area.

One thing I WISH they would add though. Often, when listening to a Genius mix, I find myself rediscovering albums I totally forget about, which then makes me want to listen to the rest of it.

The little 'back arrow' in the display takes you to the location of the song currently playing, but it's in the Genius mix playlist. I would love to be able to CTRL click the arrow and have iTunes take me to the _actual_ song in the _library_, correctly filtering on Artist, Album and Song in the Column Browser if open.

And yes, I have requested this quite some time ago, but as yet, nothing.

Apple have never listened to their customers views, never will, and that's why itunes is so unbearable to use. To the average 'Joe' its a "*** too hard , you do it" which seems to suit apple for some reason . Apart from being just plain ugly, it's also so very slow and requires constant attention. Unfortunately, unless your'e a 'Jailbreaker' (all power to you if you are) its a necessary evil, but give me the opportunity and i'm gone .

Actually I have to agree with Yellydoor1. I find iTunes terrible, every time I want to do something, I prepare for an exercise in frustration, checking user threads on help pages, and clicking random things that I think might work, then don't.

Just for instance, what I'm trying to do right now: One of my albums plays fine in iTunes but the songs all skip after first second when I play on my iPod. Going to help forums, someone said I need to uncheck the songs on the iPod then re-sync. The check marks are "grey-ed out" and are un-clickable. Another suggestion on another thread to set iTunes to manually manage songs. I did that, check marks are still greyed out. Why can't I easily select/de-select songs that I want on my iPod? This is a fundamental functionality. Am I missing something? Can anyone help? Sorry for frustrated tone, but I'm about to throw my computer and iPod out the window...

I totally agree. I have been an avid apple user, iPhones, iPad, iTouch, iMac and apple tv... until I get to try Samsung Note 4 and was surprised how easy to configure everything. Apple keeps on changing the set up for itunes in so many ways that busy people really don't have time to sit down and learn with it. My last iPad 4th Generation will be the last for this and will jump into Android. There are more problems that I don't have time to elaborate but if people will see the difference, they will surely give up Apple and jump into Android. The hardware quality of apple and the battery life has been noticeably diminishing. The issue on Audiobooks purchased has remained one of the problems for apple users. You can't just download the audiobooks you already purchased easily each time there is an update on the OS. I have done my research and I see a lot of people facing problems with this. If you want apple.. you should have the time to sit down and update always the software, learn the new things that keeps on changing for the better but most often conflicts with other applications that they need to ask you to download again the newest firmware and so on until you realize the gadget that is supposed to give you convenience and comfort is now taking so much of your time and will be part of your routine. On the other side, Android is not restricted... it is merely like an external gadget attached to your computer. And that makes a huge difference. I hope Apple will hear this and make iTunes not a requirement to transfer files from computer to your gadget. TIME is valuable to us as well, what is comfort and convenience if you spend most of your time attached to your gadget just because you need to keep up with it. A quarterly update or twice a year update with a specified date should be an answer to this... We should be in control of our gadgets and not be controlled by it. Apple is in control of the user... while Android users are not enslave with the gadget but controls on how we want to use them. Huge difference on that perspective.
