As noted by Gnome, you cannot merge two accounts. Not for lack of people asking, but Apple simply does not provide a way to do this.

For music, you can just put it all in one library and use them together, as I suggested.

That does not work so well for apps, since apps require constant updating, which means you have to be logged in to the account from which it was originally purchased.

Going forward, choose your "main" account and use it for all new purchases.

Okay. I'll start using another email but, if I close down the email that my apple account was originally set up with will I lose all the apps? Is the email used to log in only an id or will it disappear if I close it down. Do I need to download all the apps I purchased on to my ipad. If I do that, and then "delete" the ones I'm not using right now will they then go to my new account? This is a pain!

Thanks for sending the like. I understand how to change my apple id to the new email address but it still seems I need to keep the old email or I will lose all my apps, either upgrades or the ones I'm not using on my ipad. Am I missing something? If I change the id (and the primary email address) will my apps transfer over? If I use two Apple id's, with one being the email account I actually want to cancel will I still have access to my apps?

Nancy, if you change the email address for your Apple ID, the apps will take on that new ID.

Will both old and new apps take on the new id or just ones I purchase after chaning the id?
