I recently enabled for the first time FileVault on my upgraded OS X Mountain Lion. I noticed that during the initial process of "Encrypting" my Hard Disk, my MacBook froze for a moment during Power Up and I also noticed that it took more time than usual after I started my login session.

With FileVault, login takes place before the boot sequence, so there's a longer delay before the Desktop appears.

Last question... Is the setup of FileVault the reason why I now see my screen (desktop) "gray" during the initial login when I power up my machine?? I recall that before I was welcomed to the login window screen with my full background desktop image 😟
