Thunderbolt or Express Card to USB 3.0 adapter? Quicker?

I'm going to put a couple hard drives in my Macbook with the OWC data doubler (taking out the optical drive), as a side note. I'm also going to have a spare (2.5" internal) drive, so I thought I would put the drive in this case (equiped with USB 3.0):

I want to get USB 3.0 speeds and heard that an express card adapter can utilize the USB3.0 speeds. So I was looking at this cable:

I'm wondering if it would be better to get a Thunderbolt to USB3.0 adapter, or does it even matter which I get (Thunderbolt/Express card to USB3.0 adapter)? Will both adapters yield the USB3.0 speeds? (I'm actually not sure if Thunderbolt to USB 3.0 adapters exist, but they should).

I have just recently purchased a GMYLE expresscard to USB3 via ebay which works with the modbin patched kext. This is with a 2008 Macbook pro (pre unibody) and a 2011 Macbook pro 17 but they only seem to work with Lion 10.7. When I updated to 10.7.2 it stopped working. It also did not work when I updated to Mountain Lion so I reverted to basic Lion 10.7.

Hope this is of some help.

Add-on USB-3 drivers can be a problem with OS X. Have you considered using Express Card to eSATA?

Put the drive in an eSATA case,

You may need a 2.5" to 3.5" mounting adapter, or look for a 2.5" eSATA case.

And it's going to be wonderful - true USB 3.0 speeds. It was supposed to ship in September, but now I notice that they're saying 'first quarter' 2013. A lot of folks have been waiting on this particular unit. I know I have. It's pricey but it's the only way that I'm going to get true USB 3.0 speeds out of my late 2011 MBP.

Hey garyjr,

I'd be very interested when your Sonnet adapters arrive if you can tell me how it works. I'm curious because the USB ports of my Macbook are fried (thanks to my two-year-old son) and it will cost more than $800 to replace the logic board. The Thunderbolt port works so I've been trying to find a Thunderbolt to USB adapter mainly so I can sync my iPhone. They don't seem to exist. I also was looking at the Belkin doc but can't wait till next year. Can you tell me if you piggyback the Thunderbolt to express card adapter with the express card to USB if you can then plug in an iPhone USB cable and have it recognised for syncing in iTunes? Cheers!

Well Works sometimes and sometimes NOT! but nore NOT! I even went as far as downloading 3 firmware updates to bring them up to date on the alegro card! also tried 2 other cards that others have! same issue! well thats ok because the the thunderbolt pro adapter works with the other card I have for esata LOL. but not for the usb 3 drives! we will see how the crap works when and if belkin ever updates their hub and releases it!!!. What I do have a question is has anyone used a usb3 hub to transfer files from one usb3 drive to another usb3 drive? and do you get the speeds? even though it would be pluged into a usb 2 port on the system> I back everything up to the external drive. but then I copy stuff over to other drives to send to my sone in the Marines! would be better then waiting for 2 to 4 hours for some of these files I do!
