Facetime not working after Mountain Lion update

I have a Macbook Pro. After I updated to Mountain Lion (from Lion), Facetime no longer works. I've tried with multiple people, but they aren't receiving my calls and I'm not receiving their calls. In Lion Facetime worked fine, but now it's not working. I also can't get iMessages to work. This is very frustrating, because I was really looking forward to iMessages. My Macbook Pro is still new, I purchased it in the first week August (2012). It came with Lion already installed. It's only 2 months old now. So I know my computer can support all of Mountain Lion's features. By the way, I'm running on Mountain Lion 10.8.2. Any help would be great! Thanks

Hi Izayaa,

I had a similar problem with Automator not working after the upgrade. Try to redownload the Mountain Lion Installer from the app store and reinstall it. This solved my problem :-)

Is the App ON in the Preferences ?

Your posts seems to suggest it launches.

Can you expand on what you see and what you are doing ?

Yes, it is on. All I do is open Facetime and call a friend by clicking on their number (as I did in the past) and then it rings until it says call failed. The other person on the other doesn't even recieve a call. When they call me, it does the same exact thing, except this time I'm the one not receiving the call. But in preferences Facetime is switched to on. Would you have a solution to the iMessages problem also?

Hmm.. Is it as easy as installing it the first time? Will it just overwrite it and just install it fresh again?

Yes, it is that easy. And it will overwrite potentialy broken components of the system.

Hi,

The two may be linked as there is a common support app called IMAgent that helps with both Messages and FaceTime.

Shut down both apps.

With the Finder as the Front App > use the Go Menu > Hold down ALT key and select Library.

In the Library find and open th Preferences Folder

Find com.apple.IMAgent.plist and drag it to the Trash

Before restarting the App now go to Activity Monitor in Applications/Utilities.

Find imagent (it is in lower case).

Highlight and use the Quit button.

Now restart the app(s).

This will recreate the .plist from defaults.

Thank you all for your help, but I found the fix! Before I even upgraded my computer I had a firmware update that I was holding off until after I upgraded. Well, today I sat down to finally run the firmware update, and it turns out it fix the problem! Now my everything works fine! 🙂 Thanks for your help!

Facetime were not working on activities at Ipod because It is not opening ipod about Facetime

Hi,

This thread was solved.

It is also about the FaceTme App on the Mac and not a version on an iOS device

If you have an issue it would best to start a new thread.

(if it was a question I can't work out what it is from what you posted.)

I had the same problem, and I found out that was something to do with the upgrade instalation of the Mountain Lion. I did a fresh install direct of the Mountain Lion - I used the Command + R to boot the internet instalation and the system is working smooth now.
