I have a OS X 10.6.8, can I download the newest Pages application?I never had any other version.

I am not technelogically savvy at all. I have a OS X 10.6.8 and I want the pages application so I can get some school work done. In the App Store it says a requirement for Pages is like a OS X 10.7 or later. How exactly am I supposed to get Pages?

Pages-OTHER, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Pages via the App Store requires 10.7.4 or later, so it cannot be used with Snow Leopard. If your computer meets system requirements then you might install Pages after upgrading to Lion.

Lion System Requirements

  1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
  2. 2GB of memory
  3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
  4. 7GB of available space
  5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

If you need to purchase Lion contact Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax. It's a download.

As an alternative you could look for the older boxed set of iWork that came on DVD. These will work with Snow Leopard. Or you could try the freeware suite, Libre Office.

Hi Jim,

You should be able to get compatible versions of OpenOffice, LibreOffice or NeoOffice (add .org to each of those names to get to their websites), all of which are open source, and ask for a donation (Neo requires payment for the current version, but this would not be suitable for a Mac running SnowLeopard).

Pages '09 is available as part of iWork '09, copies of which can still be had from several suppliers (but not from Apple).

Barry

Apple is trying to get you to upgrade to the latest OSX. But I think in this case it is more likely somebody didn't think through the implications of the requirements.

If you can, moving up to Mountain Lion is a good thing and not expensive.

Lion was definitely not worth it but I am finding ML brisker and quite nice.

Do you actually need Pages? There are plenty of alternatives, depending on your needs, some free and they don't require an upgrade to the latest OSX.
