how can i repair a chewed iphone 5 charging cable?

So I got one of the iPhone 5s on release and have run into a serious problem....my cat chewed through the charging cable. Apparently they are pretty hard to find and won't be available for quite some time. I need to know if there is a way I can repair my current cable? There are only two breaks in the cord and they are pretty small. I have noticed there are three smaller cables inside, would I be able to solder them back together to make it work?
