iPad 3 and iOS 6 - Home button not working

Since updating to iOS 6, the iPad 3's home button has been acting quite flaky. It often stops responding all together, forcing me to use gestures to quit apps or to access the multitasking panel. I've tried rebooting the device and re-calibrating the home button but the improvements are short-lived.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Thanks,

Kenroy

I did the same! The technician who took a look at it, said he had some devices with the same issue before, and that it appear not to be software! I also got a replacement for a brand new one, since brazilian laws do not allow replacement with refurbished products. And that was what I worried most since I heard people saying here that in the US they replace with refurbs...

I have an iPod Touch 4G that has been having the problem described in this thread since upgrading to iOS 6. Tried almost everything that folks have suggested over the course of this thread to no avail. Today I upgraded to iOS 6.1 which was released a couple hours ago and (so far) the button functionality appears to be working perfectly now. Will be very interested to hear if others see the same as they upgrade to 6.1

Ok i just got my ipad 4 couple of hours ago, and right out of the box i was unable to turn it on with home button. Now after playing with for a bit i can tell that i have the same issue. Home button doesnt respond sometimes. After i finally get it to work, which takes five, six clicks, it seems ok for a bit, but after browsing on using some other app for a while it does it again. Installation of ios 6.1 did not solve the problem. Also tried hard reset and home button calibration but still no luck. I dont think that its a hardware flaw because it works flawlessly on the home screen. I dont know what to do now, the ipad is still usable but im kinda disapointed that my 800 dollar device doesnt work the way it supposed to.

Update

After one day of use, my home button finally works fine. As i said i had the same problem majority of people were having plus mine was right of the box. What i did was restore my ipad to a factory settings, then recalibrated home button, after these processes my button still wasnt working properly. Then i did the trick from another topic, i know it sounds stupid but i did it just in case, it actually helped for a bit but same thing as with the recalibration only for short period of time. (Holding your ipad in portrait mode then while holding home button slowly turning it to landscape mode and releasing the button). Still no luck after that but then i simply pushed on home button with my finger, and started rotating it clock ways and anti clock ways and it actually helped. Since last night and trough out the day my home button did not have a single skip. I hope it helped someone.

Hi All

I am still having this problem and I am saddened to see Apple in denial about it. My solution, sadly, has been to buy a Microsoft Surface. I've had it a few days now and it is staggeringly good! It's much better in terms of power and flexibility than the iPad (and my old Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1). There are not as many Apps yet as there are for Android / iOs, but that is rapidly changing!

I know this is an extreme solution, but it's worth considering...
