Key photo not working in iOS and Aperture

Ever since iOS 4, key photos from Aperture or iPhoto don't work on iOS devices. Prior, key photos selected in Aperture or iPhoto would show up as the key photo in the Photos app on the iOS device. But for some reason, Apple broke that functionality and never fixed it in iOS 4, iOS 5, or iOS 6. I have Aperture 3.4 running on OS X 10.8.2 syncing to an iPhone 4S and iPad (3rd-gen) both on iOS 6.0.

Does anyone have a solution by any chance?
