Q: Iphone 5 signal loss

Anyone else having a problem where when you lose signal for a lengthy period time such as on the train the phone doesnt find signal again when you are clearly in a area that would have signal. Only way around this for it to stop saying "No service" is to reboot the phone.

It reboots and has signal again

Anyone else getting this problem?

iPhone 5, iOS 6

I really thought ios 6.1 had solved the problem and then today I looked at my phone and  no service was there so I toggled airplane mode  and service came back to 4 bars 3G signal I don't know how long it had been without service for  but that's the problem clearly ill be unavailable until I notice ! Only thing I haven't tried is a new handset will have to book appointment at apple store  :-(

After having trawled through the best part of 300 replies, it's obvious that there's a problem that's related to the iPhone 5 running iOS 6 which 6.1 didn't fix.

Ive just moved my contract to a 3G only provider '3' in the UK and my phone is basically unusable; I can watch it go from 5 bars to 2 bars to no service to 'searching' to two bars to five bars and then get a bit of internets for a few seconds,  just to repeat this cycle.  I also have to regularly switch to airplane mode and back to get the thing to look for a network.

I did't notice this problem with Orange or Vodaphone possibly because it dropped to Edge - 3 is 3G only.

Question: has anyone who is running an iphone 5 on iOS 5 experienced this problem?

Oh,  and a note to people who are new to Apple; they don't listen, don't communicate and don't appear to care. It's just their culture.

Hello i have the same issue and is very annoying.i discovered something:when i have cellular data on and 3g enable when i enable wifi and make a call signal drops.but if i have cellular data enable and 3g enable and wifi off and i wanna make a call or receive one it works without any problems.so my advice is that when you want to use your wifi and have cellular data on,disable 3g and it should work it wont screw your calls while on wifi with 3g enabled

I have to say updating iphone 5 to ios 6.1 resolved all my network problems and I am on three in the UK. Somehow it improved the battery life on the phone too. I am very happy with my iphone 5 at present time.

Interesting,  this is the opposite to my experience with the same network provider, phone and software.

Has anyone noticed a change when moving from iOS 5 to iOS 6?

I'm not aware that any iPhone 5 ever ran ios 5 in order to upgrade to ios 6 to be honest.

Dilbert's right.  iOS 5 won't install to an iPhone 5, which launched with iOS 6 installed.  iOS 5 isn't formatted for the larger screen.

I also have issues with signal. In my case, it appears that after I've lost signal, I will only pick edge backup until I reboot or turn airplane mode on and back off. As soon as I do, 5 bars of 3G or LTE immediatly. This is definitely a firmware issue.

Least you've got 'edge' to fall back on.

    As above, I'm also on 3uk (3mobile) a 3G ONLY provider.

When the bug hits me it will not reconnect

Because it won't reconnect to a 3G signal without a reboot

    Of the modem.

    But....

If you read back this monster thread (joking) you'll see

I'm up there with the 1st few pages as this but surfaced.

But now I'm running 6.1.0 I can't say this bug had returned.

Only way I know it's not is because every time I pull out my phone to use it

    It's all ok.

I go all the same places, do all the se stuff (boring life I know, but its work)

In dead spots I loose signal,  emerge to a coverage area and

    Signal is restored.

    For now, bug gone.

    Iphone5 (black 32gb sim free)

    6.1,0

    3UK (3 mobile) (3G only provider)

just wanting to check if anyone has this issue also?

I purchased my iphone 5 outright in australia, and it has been unlocked. I am currently in the UAE and for the past month I have had no issues with it here. I have a pre paid UAE provider for my service over here and I have wifi in my accomodation. Loading data outside of wifi was fine, my 3G connection was fast and I had no complaints......

Since I have updated to 6.1 I cannot access any data unless it is via wifi. The phone still displays full network coverage and the 3G symbol is still there, yet nothing will load. A work colleague of mine with an iphone 4S (not yet updated) with the same network carrier turned on his personal hotspot and I was able to access data through his connection.

I have tried everything suggested on the apple troubleshooting page (resets etc) and I have tried the airplane mode toggling on and off. I have called apple support both in the UAE and in Australia and they keep pinballing me back between the two.......

No change for me with 6.1.2. iPhone is still useless outside of wifi.....apple told me it might be a hardware problem and to take it to an apple shop here in the Middle East.

    Great

Updated to 6.1.2 , as cara lee said, no changes but i discovered something.if you wanna use 3g or lte, switch off wifi.and when youre connected to wifi switch off 3g or lte.if you do this you wont have any dropped calls.i think it might be some type of connection between wifi and cellular antenna.try this it may help you:)
