My iTunes library suddenly stopped recognising my iPod.

I tried all I could but cannot get my iPod to sync with my Library. It happended when I bought songs from the iTunes store. This has never happened before. Every time I connect my iPod to iTunes, iTunes stops working. I have tried both ports on my laptop. I have tried another cable to conect iPod to laptop. I Please can anyone help.
