Print Center

I have just networked my powerbook and a B&W G3, both running 10.28.
I was all excited to print from the powerbook upstairs to the epson connected to the G3 downstairs.
The Powerbook sees the epson in the print Center, and allows me to print to it, but then the job is stuck in the queue. The buttons to stop or delete the job are all greyed out.
Apple support had very little to say that I could find. One suggestion was to delete to printers folder in the root libraries. that didn't do anything even after a restart. The other led me to the CUPS site. I even tried downloading the CUPS software, but it's clearly beyond my level of tinkering.

How do I delete the print jobs without print center?
Any idea how I can get this working?

thanks,

Jeff
