Just got my Iphone5 last Friday and found it occasionally unresponsive, I cannot tap into any apps, and sometimes I cannot even swipe to unlock the phone.

But in other times it is fully functional, so guess it is software other than hardware issue. Already tried restore it once, the problem is still on and off.

Anyone having similar issue?

iPhone 5, iOS 6

I am very disappointed, even my fossil old 3GS that I have been using for 2 and a half years was more stable than this..Should I ask for a swap? but guess it is not gonna happen before they have enough stock to supply those queueing in front of the store. This is Ridiculous

My iPhone5 touch screen will not respond when its plugged in.  As soon as I unplug the charger, the touch screen works fine.  I know its not freezing since the home and lock buttons both work.  Anyone have any similar issues?

    Exactly the same here!!

You have a thirp party produced charger. Dont use it. Use the apple's own that came with the phone or pad or whateveRiDevice. Works like a charm.

Just tested this with many china chargers, Belkin chargers, finnish made chargers and apple's own chargers. Screen freezes in every single one except the apple ones.

Edit: i mean the wall piece of the charger. Cables work fine. chinese or whatever....

Um, I would disagree with this.

I have no 3rd party charges, and this is happening with my 5.

In fact, I have mine plugged into the cable IT CAME WITH, to my iMac, and it is not responding to any touch at all.

This is starting to annoy me, I can't even shut off the dumb thing if it won't recognize swipes!

Found out how to hard boot it, but the problem persists.  Guess it's time to go to the Genius Bar.

I don't have any third party charges so that's not my issue.

The Apple store just gave me a new phone since mine was only three days old.

Have you seen any similarity with the freezing when plugged in or not? Maybe too high voltage fromyou iMac's usb ports?.

It only happened while it was unplugged (until today, when I hoped that plugging it in would fix it).

Prior to today, I'd only used the wall plug to charge it, except for the very first day I got it when I was activating it.  Today and then were the only times I had it plugged into my Mac.

And it was plugged into my keyboard USB, not directly into the back.  I have an older iMac (one or two generations from the current ones).

Oh wait, I take that back.  I did charge it twice while I was at work on my ThinkPad laptop.. but i did the same with my 4S and there were never any problems with that one.

By the time I got to the Genius Bar, not even a wipe and restore from factory settings would resolve it, so I got a new one.  They didn't seem to have any idea what may have caused it.  But it was definitely pretty much a brick, albeit a brick that still powered on.  And still got good LTE/4G signal.

Let's hope this one lasts longer.

Question for those who are having issues - what color and what GB size are yours?

    Mine is white 64GB.

Just wondering if there is any relation to color/size (doubt it, but worth asking).

Mine is 32gb black. Actually my keyboard also has usb ports and those dont provide enough power to charge the new ipad nor my iPhone 5. iPad i understand but iphone i dont... Clad you got your device replaced and youre good to go again.

Hallelujah - not just me. I'm so fed up of stabbing at the screen like an imbecile. Happens regardless of the phone being plugged in or not. App Store is the worst - trying to install an app, takes God knows how many stabs of the 'Install' button. Just now, tried to return to a call from the home screen - and stabbed the green bar at the top numerous times. Finally got back to the call/phone screen just before I was about to hurl the stupid phone on the floor. So fed up. Mine is white 64gb.

I'm also finding it difficult to edit text in the text entry field on Google. I find it a challenge getting a cursor.

As an aside, is anyone else finding their 5 keeps dropping wifi? At home (which is the only place I've used wifi on it so far), I keep finding the phone's on 3G, and now have to check every time I use it. Tedious. My 3 and 4 never did this.

Since I got my second charger cable, I started using it at work and my IPhone 5 did exactly the same thing.

Whole screen became unresponsive, hardware buttons worked but not the touch screen...

Reading the responses here, I switched chargers, cables and even tried different power outlets.

Every single time I unplugged and used one of the hardware buttons, everything turned back to normal.

Completely puzzled, I looked at the "new" "state of the art" Lightning port and there it was, dust and a piece of lint

from my soft carrying case. Used canned air on it and problem went away.

It may be worth checking your phones for  a similar cause...

    Just my 2c s...
