Thank you so much for posting this. I had tried all other suggestions with no success. It's funny how the notifications worked to begin with and then stopped completely. I wonder if an update reset the settings? Thank you!

So, are you saying that it worked but then now it doesn't again? Hmmm... Same thing with me and I'm thinking it might be my slow Internet connection that's why it doesn't update as quickly as on my laptop. What I have to do sometimes is to swipe on then off the Notification in the notification center in the settings. I'm still trying to figure it out so it notifies me ALL the time.
I'll keep you posted

I'm sorry it didn't work for you at all. I'm still trying to figure it out and I'll post a solution again should I find one

It's funny because the push notifications worked to start with and then stopped suddenly. I couldn't figure out what happened until I stumbled upon this post. Nothing I tried worked.
I tried deleting my phone # from the registered phone list under the account setting on facebook/text messaging tab but it didn't work. I tried reinstalling the facebook app from the apple app store... nothing. Finally I saw this post about going into settings on the iphone, then notifications and saw that facebook was not listed in the notification center. When I clicked on the facebook icon the problem became instantly clear, my notification button was set to off and the alert style was set to none. Once those two places were updated my problem was instantly solved.
Good luck on finding a solution to the problem...

I had this problem for months. On every device, I'd not get notifiations for new messages. Not on iPhone, Android, Mac.
I tried everything.
My fix was:
Goto apps and search facebook, you'll see Facebook for iPhone, Facebook for Android etc etc etc.
Click each one and remove. Remove them all.
Then logout, log back in and bingo, all fixed

Well I have found that if you go to the Facebook site and look up that Facebook app for iPhone and remove it. Making sure you log out of your phone. Log back in and approve app, I have found that it did help with the notifications. The sounds on the other hand still do not work properly. Every since the integration with Facebook and iOS

actually yeaterday, for some reason, my notifications, specifically the badge icon, worked and i as gonna test to see for how long it'll work... again, but your solutions, as well as the one of omanofsteelo's are noted. should my notifications don't work again... i'll try your suggestions... i think what you both said are the same?
thanks so much! this not-receving-notifications issue is beginning to annoy me so thanks for your help... you and omanofsteelo
viscrapchick and bcinnyc... check this suggestion out...

Thanks everyone. Just to be clear, I receive push notifications. I just don't get the sounds and vibrations, except for messages. Is this the problem everyone else has been dealing with?

i believe that is what everyone's been talking about... not receiving mobile push notifications from facebook. well, for me... that is my concern. i also don't get sounds and vibrations AND i don't receive any push notifications, as well. i'd have to go inside facebook first, so it'll update and when i go out, that's when i'll see the notifications... i mean, that's when i'll see the small number on the badge app icon on the home screen. what i want is to see on the badge app icon the number of notifications i receive... on facebook, that is.
if you have no problem with this concern... please lemme know what your settings are... maybe mine's not like that yet i try all suggestions but what happens is that i get push notifications for like a day then it stops...

The problem started at the time of the iOS and Facebook app integration. My settings on my iPhone and iPad are:
In Settings, Notification, Facebook - Notifications ON, Alert Style Alerts, Badge App Icon On, Sounds On and View in Lock Screen On.
In Settings Facebook, Settings - Vibrate ON, Play Sound ON.
My Facebook account is set up on the iPhone and iPad and I log into Facebook with it.
I have tried all of the suggestions, but I do not get sounds or vibrations. Apple and Facebook need to know about this (tell them please) and they need to fix it.

Yes this is very true....the issue is more with sound notification. After several searches there are many people reporting this same issue. Not just here on apples support site but on Facebook as well. I think they are aware of the issue just not have come out and said so. I believe that hopefully the issue will be resolved with the release of iOS 6.1 which should be coming soon as that last dev release was just given to developers. Only time will tell but yes this is truly annoying

Hi. At least I'm not the only one having this issue. I had it with my iphone 4 & just bought a new 5 11 days ago. Exact same problem. What I discovered was that the app stayed in my notification, UNTIL I SWITCHED OFF MY PHONE.Apple advised me to set up the phone as a brand new device, which I did & I lost lots of stuff including all my texts. After numerous support calls to Apple, & all possible fixes tried & none of them worked. Apple confirmed that it has to be a FB issue with the app.
So the best thing to do they said was report it to FB. So get to it folks. It seems that it's our only option.

i have the same settings but still... no push notifications, no sound, and no vibration
i've emailed (sent a 'what's-wrong-with-your-iphone' kind of feedback) facebook and i did it through the facebook app on my phone. i told them that a lot of other people are experiencing the same problem i am experiencing etc. etc.
let's all hope they will do something about it
