Q: Why is icloud not syncing all my notes on all devices properly?

I have iCloud syncing of the new desktop/mobile app - "Notes" turned on in my desktop Imac, my Ipad and my Iphone.

All I want iCloud to do is simply mirror and sync all three of these Notes platforms so that the latest versions of all existing and new notes are identical in number and content on all devices.

Is that not what this great complicated,bug-prone iCloud is SUPPOSED to do ????

I had, over a long time   (pre-iCloud and Mountain Lion),   accumulated 61 separate notes on the Iphone, as this is where I create and refer to most of my notes.

Despite my having these 61 Iphone notes, only 17 are appearing on the desktop - and, indeed, it appears iCloud has gone and DELETED  most of the notes I had previously synced up to the desktop from the iPhone using both iCloud and the old Itunes syncing,.... which of course has now no longer available..

Please, someone, how do I get Icloud to stop being selective and having a mind of its own about what it deletes and syncs and, instead, very simply do what it'as touted to do and mirror all notes in identical fashion on all 3 platforms.  ?????

- Iam frustrated and on the verge of just shutting it all down and giving up on the Cloud - it is so poorly explained !!!

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.1), iMac 2.7 GHz core i5

Thank you so much for your post.  You explained it so that this senior citizen could understand.  I'm coming from a DOS environment all the way through Windows XP, with minute amounts of Vixsta, and Windows 7. So I'm not entirely a novice when it comes to computers, but this had me stumped!!!

This is a really cool solution to the problem, except it does not work for me. For some reason, all of my notes are on the iphone/ipad and I can't figure out a quick mass way like this to get them up to the cloud. This is a real bummer the way it turned out and was not really necessary since they did not have the issue with contacts or calendars. Anyone got a quick and easy way to move my 90 notes to the iMac?

    Should be easy.

    1. Open notes

    2. Click on 'notes' in top tool bar

    3. Click 'accounts'

    4. Look at accounts listed and uncheck box for 'notes' (if checked)

    5. Go to icloud account listed there and check box for notes

    6. Cross fingers

I have done exactly that (i.e. checked notes only in iCloud on my iPhone) and my iPhone notes are not syncing, Did not sync in ios9 nor in the new ios10.

You might want to consider starting a new discussion. Since this one is marked solved and a couple of years old, less people are likely to look at it. A new post would be much more visible. You can link to this one.

Have you tried signing out of iCloud and then sign back in?
