Q: How can I retrieve my QuickTime 7 Pro key? I can't find it in my order history.

I noticed that in resinatlling my system, I had forgotten to re-enter my QT 7 Pro registration keys.

In the past I could retrieve them from my order history. Now the order history only goes back 18 months and despite what the support article says, it doesn't seem to be accessible from the account page.

Anybody had the same issue? Am I going to have to call Apple?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.1), 2011 15" 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7

That would not be correct. Any program or operating system that requires a code number is your responsiblity to save. Microsoft & Apple could not exsist otherwise, think about it, everyone would just pass on a OS. com.apple.QuickTime plist is only stored if the key is still active on the computer. Anything can be cracked, moron...

    Thanks Oz-MacNut.

Even though I hadn't installed QT7 in a while - the plist was still in my Preferences folder.

Downloaded QT 7 for Snow Leopard here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL923

Ran the installation and it automatically detected my Pro registration.

Note - the  QT 7 from http://support.apple.com/downloads/#quicktime did NOT work - it wouldn't install due to QT X being installed. This one seems to be the whole QT install (drivers etc) whereas the first link is just the player.

    Thanks, this helped.

Agree with those that this is a pathetic situation. I never understood why after emasculating QuickTime Player they didn't just make v7 free. They're giving away apps now, why not this one?

I have to agree. While Quicktime X includes some editing and export options that kind of overlap, Quicktime 7 Pro does seem to be easier to manipulate more detail (adding subtitles and editing & exporting audio/video/chapter tracks). I don't understand why obsolete software still needs to be paid for. Could Apple quite easily email all previous purchasers of the Quicktime 7 Pro key with the "one key to rule them all?"

As OS's develop, so do the multimedia editing and exporting facilities baked in to the OS. IMHO, bake Quicktime 7 Pro into OS Mavericks, Apple.

oz-macnut: Well hopefully they will fix either the OS or Quicktime 10.3 so video files will work correctly sooner than later. I was told I needed to purchase another key, Apple should give these out for free to Mavericks users because we were not the ones that caused this to happen. lol   MtnBiker I am with you Quicktime 7 Pro should be free for Mavericks users till they fix this.
