Today iCal on my desktop (iMac 10.7.5) stopped showing info from 3 of my 5 calendars although that info is visible in iCloud and on my iPad2 (ios5). No changes to either o/s since yesterday when everything was working. Tried to back up the calendar files from iCloud, but no data was imported. Any ideas?

Hello,
I have seen this happen occasionally. Typically, clicking on the calendar in my list of calendars, and then refreshing (holding down the command key and hitting 'R') will be force the calendar in question to update. Have you tried that yet?
