Keynote remote not connecting after iOS 6 update

So before iOS 6 keynote remote connected with almost no problems. Now it's a pain. First, when I create a network using my MacBook Pro (brand new and totally up to date), when I connect to said network using iPad preference the wireless antenna no longer shows, so one cannot be sure if the network has connected.

Second, I open keynote remote on my ipad and try to connect. Yes, I know how to do it so don't tell me how to do it. Sometimes it says it can't connect to a network. Other times it says that I have to unlink keynote when no link has been made. Other times all will go we'll until I enter the code, a step I still do not comprehend, but when I enter the code it works and works and works but never connects. Other times it will say the connection cannot be made.

I have had to completely shut down my I pad and restart my iPad. I am doing all this while my class is waiting because the iPad still does not multitask. If I have keynote remote running with the presentation, I cannot go to numbers to take role. Also once I tell the iPad to run the presentation, I don't think I can do anything on my computer. That though has been a problem all along.

Can anyone help resolve these issues?

I am also having this issue and after trying the "Mac Life" downgrading article (it didn't work) a bunch of other inter webs suggestions I had an epiphany this morning.

My solution is as follows

Created a network on MacBook Pro

Opened keynote

Unlinked iPad

Connected iPad to MBP (the connected network icon next to "iPad" in upper left corner disappears)

Choose to link to keynote

Link iPad with 4 digit code on MBP

I was able to run my keynote from iPad.

It stinks to have to do this each time, but it is a "fix" for now

This method worked on MBP running Lion and iMac running mountain lion

I wish you luck

Hi I had a similar nasty suprise this morning when setting up my iPad and Macbook Air for a Keynote presentation. Unable to link my iPad to Keynote. I tried Wi-Fi and Bluetooth with no luck. Please Apple, fix this problem ASAP and while your at it PLEASE upgrade it to Retina and HD for iPad. It's an invaluble tool for my work and I haven't found anything that does exactly the same job. Thank you.

I also found that changing your IP address on your Macbook to a static/manual address and also changing it to a static/manual on your iPhone/iPad seems to fix the problem. Of course this is a temporary fix and Apple needs to address this. So for example, under System Preferences->Network on your Macbook change your IP address manually to something like 192.168.1.1 and then change it manually on your iOS device to something like 192.168.1.2 and the Router will be 192.168.1.1.

I also vote for an iPad verison of the remote allowing you to jump around to different slides. Something that isn't so linear like the iPhone version.

I was just in contact with the iWork team, and they suggested that after the initial failure to link with Keynote, you should try once more. And yes, this seems to work. Don't know why it requires two attempts, though.

On some WiFi networks the link is established on the first try. If I use 'create nework' it takes two attempt, apparently.

I started this thread so thought I should chime in again. iWork team sent me an email asking for more info which I sent them althught there was little to say other than what I did in the orginal post. I almost always have to shut down my iPad and restart it to get it to connect. I have tried the suggestion of trying again. That's all well and good, but seldom works. It isn't the fix. This is new with the new iOS and Keynote remote updates. I have no idea what the techno stuf is on this as I use the things I don;t know all the internal hardware and software issues nor do I care to that's why I use Apple products.

I use this in class. I use my iPad for two purposes: to take role in numbers and to control my presentation. I cannot for the life of me get things set up before class so I can just transition from one app to the other. I'd probalby not be worrying about this if I did not have to leave Keynote Remote to go to the Numbers APP, but I do. That means having to reconnect. That somethiems means having to reshut sown the iPad. Never had this problem before the up dates. So there is evidently a fly in the ointment.

I a having the same issues bloody frustrating the missing wifi icon and lack of connectivity - it let me down in a presenation yesterday and my apple remote as well as macbookpro retina also has no IR for remote!

I tried changing the network name but keynote remote will only see my macbook's name and my old macbook name not the new no spaces no apostrophe name !!

arghhhhh

I started this thread and am still having the issue. Most of the time, I have to shut down and restart my iPad to get the connection to work. It's certainly an inelegant approach but it it works. Apple contacted me for more info on this issue, but that was not long after my original post. I had also sent a feedback msg on it. It is definitely frustrating.

AFTER 55 MINUTES ON THE APPLE HELP LINE I WAS TOLD THAT KEYNOTE REMOTE IS DESIGNED TO WORK ONLY ON A WIFI NOT A PEER TOP PEER COMPUTER TO IPHONE 'WIRELESS' CONNECTION AS IT WILL HAVE ISSUES WITH IP ADRRESSES ETC!!

BUT WE DID FIND A FIX FOR THE PROBLEM THAT I WASW GOING TO DO ANYWAY

UNINSTALL KEYNOTE REMOTE FROM IPHONE (AND ITUNES) AND TELL IT TO DELETE SETTINGS AND THEN DOWNLOAD IT AGAIN FROM APP STORE ONTO IPHONE AND IT HAS WORKED EVERY TIME SINCE THEN

i read elswehere that upgrading to IOS6 or an iphone 5 from a 3GS takes some settings and causes problems in IOS6 so some people had issues with their carrier and other wireless issues etc

so i dont gauarantee that it will fix your issues but worth a try

they did not respond on why the wifi icon is missing

they also todl me iphone 5 is not designed to work with bluetooth for fie sharing (and nor is keynote remote!) even tho it says u need wifi or bluetooth for keynote remote - they also asked me why I dont use my home wifi to present with keynote remote - i said my home wifi does not reacjh Africa USA UK AUSTRALIA and euerope where i present!!

so looks ike bluetooth is pretty useless for iphone althoug they did say it would work *and only work* on iphone when using it for remote tethereing to use the iphone carrier to coonect the laptop to the internet!!

so it is......

It would be if you are doing corporate ads and such, but I'm a professor with slides to provide outline for students as I lecture. I have extensive notes that are in the Presenter Notes. Your little trick just doesn't do it. The whole idea is to be able to be liberated from a podium. Also, I have friends who are ministers who use the iPad to advance slides and also have their sermon notes visible only to them. There are a lost of uses that your "simplest solution" is not a solution.

Even if your solution did work for me, why should I regress to a method I used 20 years ago when we have these other methods that are supposed to work. With all the complaining we do, we should be glad we can get it to work despite the issues given what our options were without this technology.

I'm hoping that the new updates to Keynote on both MAC and iPad will solve the problem although it came out too late to test this term.
