iphone 5 will not shuffle on bluetooth

My iPhone 5 and updated iPhone 4 connect fine to my 2013 Mazda CX-5 via bluetooth, but the shuffle and replay buttons are now grayed out (on the car radio). The iPhone 4 worked fine with ios 5, but nowI can only play songs alphabetically on both phones, whether I select the next song from the car radio or from the phone itself. FWIW operation is fine with the USB cable for both phones.

iPhone 5, iOS 6, Also iOS 6 iPhone 4

I just got a Mazda 3 and am now also experiencing this problem. I swear just after purchasing the car everything was working fine; however, the last iOS update that I downloaded for my iPhone 4s the shuffle has stopped working. Everytime I try to play in my car it starts back at the first song in alphabetical order which is getting really anoying. Specially considering my iTunes library has a large number of songs multiple versions. Spotify and other third party music applications are still working as normal. Because of this I am convinced that this is a new bug introduced as part of iOS6 updates. Something else to note is that the shuffle button on the car is disabled and pressing shuffle on the phone quickly reverts back. Until this is fixed I see my iTunes library on my phone as virtually unusable in my car.

I recently purchased a 2013 Mazda3 and have experienced the same problem. I attempted to select shuffle on my iPhone5 (which is runnning on iOS 6.1.4) and it doesn't work. As much as I love listening to music on my phone's iTunes, I can't stand having the songs play in alphabetical order. Shuffling is such a basic function and the iPhone can't do it. How messed up is that?

I just bought a new Mazda Cx-5 and I do have the same problem, no shuffle, no time of the song, no cover, nothing, it will just play in alphabetical order... has anyone tried to connect with the USB cable? Considering the amound of new Mazda cars out there I hope Apple fixes this now that they are seriously thinking of going into the car´s console business. Until then, one more complaint.

After searcing other message boards looking for a possible answer I was able to find a work-around to the shuffle problem with the iPhone/CX 5 combination.

In order to "reengage" the shuffle you need to switch to another option on the radio head (FM, AM, etc). Then manually press play on your iPhone, then press the shuffle option. Once you've started the music on your iPhone you can then switch back to bluetooth on the radio head.

If you're doing this when starting your car, be sure that your iPhone bluetooth connection has completed before starting this process. I've noticed that the shuffle will "disengage" again if you switch to any of the other options (FM, AM, CD, etc), this also includes if you get a phone call. If this happens you have to perform the above process again.

The system can be a little wonky sometimes and doesn't always take. On occassion it's taken me a few attempts but it works.

I hope this helps you all until an actual fix is found.
