Q: "itunes was installed incorrectly"

I've uninstalled, re-installed iTunes on my computer using Firefox. I have Windows 7. I get the "you have successfully installed iTunes" message, but when I open iTunes, I get this error msg: 'iTunes was not properly installed. If you wish to import or burn CDs you need to reinstall iTunes."

I can still play/listen to music, but can't burn CDs. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Error message won't say how or what was incorrect about the install.

Could you post your diagnostics for us please?

In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:

    dvdcd diagnostics.png

    ... and click "Next".

When you get through to the final screen:

... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here. (Use your Ctrl-V keyboard shortcut to paste.)

Went to help>diagnostics>clicked "next" aaaand then got this pop-up:

"iTunes has stopped working. A problem cause the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program."

    Drat.

Okay ... try doing the diagnostics again, but this time with all four boxes unchecked. (There's something that shows up in the "minimal" diagnostics that might give us enough of a heads-up on the cause of the launch error message.)

perfect! The clue was there, too:

    CD Driver Not Available

    CD Driver DLL Not Available

With that one, I'd start with solution 3 from the following document:

iTunes for Windows: Optical drive is no longer recognized, or "Disc burner or software not found" alert after install
